G'dday

so i tried using gog galaxy again with the new safety settings in windows 10 and the most awkaward of things happenend. i can't install a close combat game, cain something anymore....

the programs runs an interpreter, at least that is how it is called, at the end of the proces that keeps being locked out. every time i accept the interpreter program as oke to run but every next time it runs windows won't recognize it as a safe program

solutions outside shutting down the safety program?
Sadly I don't have a solution for you, but this sort of thing is why I want gog to focus on the technical side of things more then marketing/ propaganda/ silly forums systems ect.

Does the offline installer version of the game work (non Galaxy)?

Do not install anything under program files or x86, that is the most common cause for issues. Install to a folder of your creation e.g. c:/mygames. Second, if galaxy doesn’t work, use the offline installers and forget galaxy.

The endresult is a bit dissapointing, instead of at the end of the installation procedure now the probem begins at the start. Even after giving the program write acces the program keeps running into the same mistake, like there is a new procedure made for every installation procedure

this does of course feel weird with the other game suppliers installers working like a charm

Just tried installing a slitherine/matrix game that i bought through their own site. the game came with its own offline installer and that one works perfect too

Sorry, your posts are really hard to decipher. I did not say to install to another drive, just do not install to windows folders otherwise you will hit UAC.
I do not understand what you mean by “added to the protection”? You shouldn’t need to to, just run the offline installers and in options select a folder that is not a windows folder. Then the installer will run.

If the issue is with "scriptinterpreter.tmp" then this is run by GOG's offline installers as well - it happens at the end and seems to handle Start Menu shortcuts and Registry settings. So it may not be necessary for all games - but it has been a feature of GOG installers for the last few years.

As such, I'd suggest the finger of blame be pointed at Windows 10 safety settings instead. Since program installation is (or should be) an uncommon activity, the best approach could be to relax these settings before install, do any installs (offline, if you're prudent) and then restore safety settings.

Or use a third party security tool that isn't inhibited by Microsoft's stupid design decisions.

Why should i listen to you dear friend? if you are already confused by my posting or have trouble by discerning the value of the advice you disclosed and my action aimed at a similar value i'm not sure if you could be believed in any way

yes this is indeed the scriptinterpreter.

on the other side i follow a simple logic, steam works, origin works, epic works, offline installers distributed by slitherine works, why should i point a finger at windows?

Because GOG has been using scriptinterpreter.tmp for the last few years (as I noted above) and your problem started just now with new safety settings - so either your chosen settings are too strict (in which case, relaxing them for installs only would be a valid workaround) or Microsoft isn't able to properly distinguish between valid applications and malware.

Scriptinterpreter is essentially equivalent to Javascript in browsers, Windows Scripting Host or Powershell in that it has useful as well as potentially malicious uses. If you are allowing these others to run on your system (especially Powershell which has in-the-wild examples of memory-resident malware) then you should have little reason to worry about a GOG-specific scripting tool.

Given the past reported antics of UAC and its inflexibility (in particular, being restricted to the Program Files folder and the inability for users to configure exceptions for applications they trust), I would always urge people to consider third party security tools that they can configure as they choose. Unfortunately for Windows 10, I know of only one example and it requires online activation which makes it a total no-go for me.
hmm, oke good point
