I love GOG and have for a long time. I have purchased quite a few games over the years here on GoG, but this last year I didnt because the games I wanted was on GoG but they didnt have the Linux version of the game available. I know supporting linux can be challegning, and I dont expect a GoG Galaxy client, but the game.. I know the linux version of the Game exists natively because.. I bought it on Steam =(.. I was trying to see how hard it would be to run the game via Wine so I could run the game.. but after reading some posts about that fun.. I just bit the bullet.

I dont know if anyone reads these posts from GoG, but in the future, if GoG licenses to sell a game.. license the Linux version too for download and I ll / we (the community) will figure out the caveats to make it work. It took a bit of effort but I got it running like butter on Steam.

Thanks guys, much love still.

You could at the very least, mention the game.

I have been using only Linux since 2005. It is true that GOG is abandoning the platform (they never released Galaxy for Linux, and Linux games are super rare. Even, as you say some games that have native Linux versions in Steam, are Windows only here).
I also noticed today that my Fallout 1&2 "Classic" supported MacOS, and the re-release are Windows only, so I guess Mac users have it worse (it is a bit more difficult to run Windows Games there as they don't have Lutris).

You are meant to use Lutris to install games. It has GOG compatibility, and I don't think I have found a single game that doesn't run yet. All of those games I even manage to run them in FreeBSD, so that's cool (no Lutris tho).

That said, I think GOG has been in a downward spiral. It removed lots of cool features like the GOG Mixes. It doesn't offer many new classic games, and has been forced to remove lots of them because of licensing issues in the past (just to release them again, but on an inferior version). The website had gone a couple of horrible re-designs, and some functionality, like patch notes is near useless.

So yeah, things are not as dire as you say if you use Lutris, but you'll be wise to expect things to get worse. Keep a tab on Steam, but no need to abandon ship yet....

I would guess based on the timing and the recent forum post the game is Old World.

Steam got a native linux build, GOG didn't.

Sadly I am different to the OP in that I just don't buy the game now if it doesn't have a Linux build. Don't like Steam, don't like GOG not bothering.

I would love to be able to switch over to linux from windows, but it's not as simple to operate as windows right? I'm not a complete cabbage with a computer but other than the basics I'm not savvy at all really so I might struggle with it (plus how many games are compatible?).

Edit: I do like gog for the no drm games, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and I see why you don't.
