victorchopin: I.G.I. 2: Covert Strike, for instance, is not as good as the first, if I remember well (2000 me was a ""different person"" to say the least, bear in mind). But I'm having fun with it. Great stealth, overall good "setting", industrial complexes to infiltrade and evade... don't judge a book by its cover. Never thought I'd like something like this but hey, here I am, 2020 me does.
Did you find a proper fix for shitty mouse input in that game? I just can't enjoy an FPS when aiming is all over the place..

It seems like a game I could potentially enjoy, if it just damn worked well.

Yes I did!
I uh...

(...)

;P

You have to bear with it. The entire game. I'm on mission 5 on my w7 machine if I'm not wrong and mouse is a pain, zero accuracy, bullets flying, killing enemies from like a mile away and hoping they'll get shot; one of the worst I've seen. Can't compare to modern games.
A crap factor but you'll get used to it. Funny though I saw some russian youtuber (probably 1C localized it back in the day) and the aim called my attention. It didn't seemed sh** at all!

Unfortunately I don't. Poorly implemented mouse input in FPS games is a constant frustration and major turn-off for me. Believe me I've tried..

And speaking of IGI2 and old games nobody talks about, what are your thoughts on Hidden & Dangerous 2? I actually haven't gotten very far in it. Even among tactical & stealth shooters, it feels somewhat hardcore.. I guess it could be nice to play with human allies as opposed to AI controlled players that get themselves killed (when you're lucky not to get yourself killed). Now I don't recall this one having mouse issues so I might have to play it again. I just get the IGI2 vibe in the sense that both games are somewhat "thinking man's shooters" and you can't just go in guns blazing.

Unlike IGI2, the AI in H&D2 can spot you from quite a distance.. it's not very forgiving. And like IGI2, aiming isn't particularly easy, but part of it is that you're using old guns with iron sights. The enemy can still hit you from a distance without much trouble.

The "ambience" kinda pays off later on in the game. It's a pain but there's more than it. Trust me. I'm playing it tonight! ;)

Wow! I installed this the other day and put it in the "beat this in 2020 please, victor" folder, no joke on that. I love these games no one cares about anymore. The very other day I began diggin' thru steamcharts.com and looking for games I have and amazingly found out that people are still playing some of these, like 6 folks at 01:00am EST blasting Majesty Gold like there's no foverer. What a rush!

Sadly, regarding H&D 2 welp that's a game I couldn't enjoy properly when it was released since my machine couldn't handle the graphics properly if I'm not mistaken. But we (me and my brother) managed to get far with some FAQ. A snow based mission... can't recall properly man, it's been like 15 years. This game actually crashed my pc in a very peculiar way! Hah good times.

But the 2nd one, vanilla as is, wow, so much better than the wonky cameras and zooms and 1st / 3rd person thing they were trying to implement... milestone ahead of the 1st - which has a lotta charm imho - I say.

Well, 3 months till 2020 ends, so... ;P
Well I got inspired to play H&D2 last night and I did the first campaign (a bunch of snowy missions). It's about as brutal as I remember, but at the same time, easier than I thought. I have to say I really like games that give you a somewhat open/sandboxy map, have some difficulty, and limited number of saves. Like Hitman 2: Silent Assassin on higher difficulties. It becomes a puzzle cracking experience where you figure out the best steps to take and evenly spread out saves. There's always something at stake because you can't just quicksave every five seconds, so threatening situations remain threatening even after you've seen them once. I guess both hitman and h&d2 also share the feat that a simple mistake can instantly ruin your run so there's quite a bit of tension. Slow game, swift deaths..

Anyway, I did notice a few design issues I'd like to rant about but I think I'll save that for another time. It's looking good, though the second campaign starts out a bit less inviting (open airport, bright daylight, lots of foes and things to deal with, reminds me of the delta force series quite a bit).

Wow, I've already pinned this one to read it thoroughly later tonight. I'll probably play a little H&D2 later this week (my last on vacations) and I'll keep posting here to chat a bit more about it! :)

Thanks!
I kinda lost my apetite for it due to some sketchy mission design in the second campaign :(

I was just checking out a walkthrough to see if there's a better way to handle it.. and then I restarted the mission, and my flak cannon got replaced with a jeep. *Sigh*
