nightcraw1er.488: There really is only a few ways of saying this. They cannot maintain the installers they have or even provide changelogs/old versions.
For older games that won't recieve any updates or need any, why would that matter?

nightcraw1er.488: And this same company is going to have various installers, for many operating systems, all supported? Madness! If anything they will drop installers completely and only have galaxy/galaxy version for win 10 (no Linux as no galaxy and Mac doesn’t run anything nor Apple). I am pretty sure we all know this by now??
Again i wonder why Virtualbox with XP or something isn't going to be heavily used. While compatibility options exist some things just don't work outside of certain systems. But with Windows 10 always forcing updates and breaking things, how is that suppose to be useful when one week something works and the next week it doesn't.

You know as well as I do, even old games are being updated. Mostly due to galaxifying them.

One of the wizardry games lost some content for instance.

As for updates breaking things, that is I am afraid, the nature of rolling updates. Again, if you don’t want that it’s your choice, no one forces new versions on you, turn off updates, remove the internet, but you are on your own, no company will support that. Win 10 s becoming old now win 11 is out.

TBH I don’t think many people care anymore, even hardware is rental or streamed now so you are fighting a lost cause.

I'm not convinced. It feels like there's a resurgence of older computer builds specifically to run games on bare hardware, especially on games that are finicky, or just the nostalgia; Even if it's just laptops.

Also XP had the longest run of an OS that it became more or less a standard, both in specs, requirements, configuration, etc. The only part i remember being an annoyance was the Fat32 limitations of individual files, everything else seemed perfect.
Can people really not apply critical thinking and conceive of why someone might not want to or can't switch to Windows 10? In my case we have very poor internet infrastructure in my area, with monopolistic and restrictive providers, and Windows 10 relies more heavily on internet accessibility than any previous operating system. It is simply not viable for me to switch, and this is the case for a lot of people still. Not having accurate system requirement information is an issue. I'm not sure if you would define it as an accessibility issue, but I'm already completely cut off from nearly all multiplayer online games due to terrible ISP options. You can tell me to upgrade until your face turns blue, but until we have better internet infrastructure here (which could take a very long time), I've upgraded as far as I can go.

So yeah. Knowing what games I can still play on the latest VIABLE operating system here would be nice.
Breaking games that formerly worked for earlier OSs is a bad idea and will force people to set sail in order to find working versions of games they've already paid for which partially undermines one of gogs original selling points.
Personally I expect a game that worked on earlier Windows, to still do so, but now also work on current Windows if sold by GOG.

I don't expect that from Steam, but I do expect that from GOG, as part of what GOG stands for.

Otherwise as the games at GOG get updated, we start to lose backwards compatibility, and that defeats a major aspect of getting the DRM-Free version in the first place.

I shouldn't have to keep older versions around. GOG should be forward thinking as well as backward looking (supporting). Otherwise, it is like another form of DRM ... especially as the years roll on.
