I don't use GOG Galaxy at all, nevertheless when launching a (single player) game I saw a connection to galaxy-log.gog.com

Couldn't find any results about this in a web search. What data are they trying to collect?

duallaser: What data are they trying to collect?
It's almost certainly Galaxy related telemetry. Even for offline installers, GOG have stuffed galaxy.dll's into them. They can all be blocked though via firewall.
Hm, what is the purpose of Galaxy related home phoning software in non Galaxy games?

Unfortunately some of them cannot be started if some firewall blocks communication and does not provide any feedback to application (e.g. Comodo).

The GOG versions of games have been compiled to "talk" to GOG servers in-game (eg, achievement unlocks) and the galaxy.dll wrapper intercepts such calls so that the game doesn't crash offline if there's no Galaxy client running. A rather convoluted method vs not locking them to Galaxy at all but this is GOG's "new direction" apparently.

I know that was true of one or two games in the past that were supposedly fixed, but if it's still true with others you should definitely report that as a bug, as an offline installer which doesn't work offline is simply broken.

I did that, but nobody cares: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/requests/396565?product=gog and I found more similar games...
EA, phone hooooommme........

gogs site does it with twitter and facebook and amazon IIRC.

They auto-drop many tickets now with a blanket reply unless one goes to their email and replies back to gog saying they indeed want help with each said ticket.

You can block that and the website work perfectly. (Edit: I block them with no-script firefox extension BTW)

My opinion? GOG may be the best DRM free store for games but isn't perfect (in any way shape or form), and privacy is more important at this time than DRM included in games...

AFAIK, they are currently experiencing heavy support traffic, therefore response times are higher than usual.
It will take longer than usual for the GOG staffs to respond because they are getting a lot more tickets since Covid started. :'(

And this imho is the worst stunt I have ever seen a company doing. Why in the first place do I open a ticket? Because I need help and don‘t want to reply again and again just to keep it open. If GOG does not want to do support, they should just delete the support email and site and be done with it.

I've seen WORSE.....they shut down the site for around 1 day to fake a faux shut down(to show how important DRM free was or some such) back in 2010 or 2011 or so.

To be fair (not defending it) you only need to reply the once, and it seems they do it because they get so many tickets and likely have so few staff. But yeah it sucks.

If I didn't know about it from checking my emails semi-regularly i'd likely have had a few of them cancel out as of late.

Btw a head's up: they also often sent a reply email to your box by default(to ask if you have more info to add to the ticket itself) even before all this, and they also auto close tickets after a certain period after they offer the actual help if you don't reply back with more questions or replies.
