Hey all,
Any one who tries to run any of the GOG games on FreeBSD inside box particularly an AMD64 port, may find the DOSbox either hangs, crashes or does not run properly. There may be a bug in the FreeBSD port of DOSbox.
I assume the person who plays the game can use the command line and manually run these games. Although Wine is used to install them.
You can either run DOSBox that comes with GOG via wine, using the configuration files in the game's directory. Descent is a game that worked well this way under FreeBSD.
You can change the dosbox settings under the CPU settings from core=auto to core=normal. The game may run slower. Although playing it like this allowed me to beat the level 7 boss.
As the bug may be related to the dynamic core cpu requirement causing it to hang.
You can use this dosbox settings, this is best settings that would used by GOG's Descent and modified it to use those
settings on all DOSbox applications. Some games may run little choppy but not as bad compared to just changing the
core=auto to normal.
In the Autoexec section you may need to refer to the Gog's games for those as they are in dosbox_single.conf but these can be used as global settings.
Although GOG games runs nicely on Linux or via Wine from FreeBSD with those default settings.
