Adasch, you are an absolute genius! Thank you so much for such a clear and successful solution.
I have had this issue for a few days now. Only for me Galaxy doesnt start at all.

Everything was fine until a few days ago, I uninstalled and re-installed the Galaxy client and it then worked fine. now today it is back to not launching at all.

Obviously having to re-install every time I want to launch it isnt going to be a workable solution. Has anybody from GOG themselves made a comment on what may be going on?
Echoing this problem. GOG client shows up as an active process in the task manager but nothing else happens. Any news on how to fix this?

Some people have found success doing this:

hohiro: You could take a look into the json files in C:\programdata\gog.com\galaxy with a text editor. They should have plain text in them.
For me one of these files (communication_config.json) was corrupt on my laptop and deleting it made Galaxy rebuild it and start normally again.
Just posting in case it may work for someone else... the issue the OP had is slifghtly different (Galaxy would start, it just took a while) and that one should be fixed by now.

Just for troubleshooting perposes, what antivirus are you running?
try disbling it for say 5 min then try to run GOG again
there was a recent issue where AVAST decided that GOG was malicious and stopped it from running.
please post results.

Mine is also not launching at all.
I also had the same issue but the idea bellow worked perfectly also for me:

To keep you safe you may move the old version first just to an other directory. Fall Update coudl have something to do with this.

Thanks BKGaming.

i installed the GoG platform, and even after closing the GoG there were 6 Open Task in Task Manager, all from %0MB to 115MB I END Task and it would pop open again all you can do is 1 option uncheck for GoG not to open on windows start up, but the rest not even in setting could you not disable Backround apps like in other programs or apps, ect.

Had to uninstall it, was taking to much CPU, and memory, in task manager, even after I closed GoG, there were still 6 Running Processes' from GoG alone all from 115MB's to 40MB's the least ones they were Eating away at the CPU, memory couldn't believe what I was seeing, well I believe but from 1 platform I immediately UNINSTALL it, as much as I wanted to buy a few games from which Steam didn't have, I just thought I'm not that Hard Up for a game Steam doesn't have. I looked it up on Steam not too much info there, everyone just talking how great it is, but failed to mention the rest, until I Googled it and saw the Listing of Problems from many people. i Would have attached a Image but to late didn't know if there be the Option here, well soon as I am done will Log out GL yal

I could not close (communication_config.json even after the GoG platform was closed, also had another 6 Task open all Running from 115MB to 50 MB all would keep running long after GoG was closed, I just UNINSTALL it the whole GoG Platform don't need it not that Hard Up to buy a game Steam didn't have, I just Stick to Steam as always, don't need no other
A good thing the Galaxy client is not needed in order to play single player games :-)

The best thing about galaxy is you do not have to use it (well mostly). That is the point of drm free, and shopping here. Once you buy something, you download the installers and are done with it. You need no client, no need to ask the internet if you can play game, it’s yours.
