I have been eagerly waiting for GOG to announce something about porting their Galaxy launcher to Linux with a Proton-like compatibility layer since the Steam Deck and Steam OS 3.0 have been announced but there's been radio silence on their part, at least as far as I am aware.

Most of my games are bought on GOG, as are the games I have wishlisted to buy but so far my willingness to buy any more games from GOG has been decreasing with the lack of Linux support and at this point I have had to wishlist games on Steam that I wishlisted on GOG and perhaps even repurchase the same games on Steam that I bought on GOG just to play them on Linux through Proton.

Yes I know there's Lutris/Wine or Mini Galaxy but I need to see GOG officially release their client over on Linux themselves.

I have not been able to decide on buying any games on either platform because I would like to hope GOG will do something but my patience is also waning that I am feeling compelled to buy them off Steam, which goes against my preference for GOG's DRM-free titles and being able to download their offline files.

Anyone else in a similar position? Will studios/developers optimize and support native Linux ports now that the Steam Deck is increasing popularity with Linux and is that what could be useful for GOG or could they still release a Galaxy launcher for Linux with a Wine fork like Proton?

No, thankfully...

Why do you say that?
At this point, I highly doubt it. I'm honestly surprised Mac support ever happened.

The question wasn't directed to me, but I too find Galaxy not desirable on Linux. The reasons being that it hardly works properly on Windows, from what I've seen, as well as being a DRM facilitator. Also considering it asks for administrator permissions randomly on Windows, I worry about what it would do if it does the same on Linux, considering administrator permissions on Linux give you far more power than on Windows.
Honestly, I'd rather GOG give up Galaxy and adopt an already functional client (even if it means eschewing pointless social accoutrements) and declaring it their flagship to adopt and help the code of.

Like Gamehub or the aforementioned Lutris.
If it does happen I can't see anytime in the near future, but like many have said there are plenty of alternatives for a client like Lutris, Gamehub, MiniiGalaxy, etc.

But I want my achievements :(

More importantly (and seriously), I want games that have achievements to have Linux ports on gog. Without galaxy, or at least galaxy's API, developers are discouraged to port their Steam Linux ports into a less featureful gog port. I can't give specific examples, but over the years, I have heard multiple times that games don't have Linux ports on gog because of this.

I would not touch Galaxy myself, though. I just want those games here. I don't let closed source software touch the Internet, for one, so I would be denying most features, anyway (I'd actually like achievements, but only if saved and displayed locally; this often provides interesting challenges).
I'd say unless Valve's attempts are very successful probably not worth their time sadly, i'd like to see it too.
Given the recent quarterly earnings report CD PROJEKT just released, https://www.cdprojekt.com/en/investors/result-center/ ; No. I expect things like Linux support/linux download options to cut back drastically and for the Linux GOG Galaxy client to be officially canceled as GOG refocuses more ".on its core business activity" during the GOG restructuring mentioned in the 2021 Q3 investor earnings report audiocast in that link I gave.

I wonder if they could just release the source code for Galaxy and let avid volunteers work on it for them...
@OP: no probably, not.

GOG is already an ultra niche site in and of itself.

And Gog users of Linux is a very tiny niche within an already tiny niche.

On top of that, GOG is having big financial problems as it is now.

I can't see any reasonable possibility that GOG is going to invest in making things for Linux under those circumstances.

No because the Linux market share is at either 1% or below 1%.

Right now gog.com is struggling financially a little bit so GOG Galaxy for Linux might not even happen at all in the next four years.

So it seems like it's going to have to be a Linux community endeavor?
