I'm getting the "essential components missing" error after installing GOG Galaxy on my new computer, I made a new thread because everything listed in last year's one don't seem to fix the problem.

List of previous solutions:
re-installing the Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable
installing Galaxy to C:\Program Files(x86)\GalaxyClient
make sure that "X:\ProgramData\GOG.com" is on the same drive as the installation directory
execute "sc delete GalaxyCommunication" and "sc delete GalaxyClientService" in the Windows console, launch Galaxy
uninstall, execute "sc delete GalaxyCommunication" and "sc delete GalaxyClientService" in the Windows console, re-in stall

In my case, this is the first time I install Galaxy on this computer and I only have one hard drive where everything is located. Also, the services are correctly removed when uninstalling.

Full error: "Essentail components needed to start GOG Galaxy are missing. Please reinstall the application."

Same here. Sometime around/maybe after the Win10 Anniversary Update my existing installation would run into "Installation Failed: Disk Access Problem" for any new game. That's why I un- and re-installed.

I pretty much did everything the OP reports as well. Cannot get it to run. Always runing into "Essentail components needed to start GOG Galaxy are missing. Please reinstall the application."

Edit: I've checked services.msc. It seems that only GalaxyCommunication is installed (start type manual), but GalaxyClientService is missing from the list. That may narow down the problem somewhat.

Don't know if it will help you, but another user reported that this did work for him:

Tried some more and found that if you don't start the client right off the installation program and afterwards run it via "run as admin" the first time it somehow worked for me.

Another thing: Are you using in your windows account non-english characters (like éöäü)?

If so, could you try with a user just having English characters?

Thx, but didn't help.

What I should point out though: There's a significant lag (half a minute or so) between starting Galaxy and the error. This again points to a problem with the GalaxyClientService. If Galaxy cannot install the service and times out while waiting for it to respond it would explain both the lag and the error message.

I'm not sure, but it could be a 32/64-bit issue.
There are separate installers for both versions of C++ 2012 Redistributable within Microsoft's download. Try installing both of them to be on the safe side.

Hi maja_ldm,

This could be a problem with either of the services (Galaxy Client Service or Galaxy Communication). After a fresh install - what happens when you run "sc start GalaxyCommunication" and "sc start GalaxyClientService" in the terminal?

Also - could you attach your log files, from C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Logs? They would help.

Hello DeMignon,
yes I had already installed both to be on the safe side. Thank you

Hello Liosan,
when I ran "sc start GalaxyCommunication" today I had a time expired response, if I'm not wrong this is a first (yesterday it was just successfully deleted), as for "sc start GalaxyClientService" I get a file not found, as uesterday (but if I remember correctly the very first time it got deleted.

The logs are here: ufile . io / a8012

Whoah.

Ok, this is serious. We'll fix this ASAP (we'll try this week).

I can offer you a workaround: open the registry editor (windows key + R, type regedit), go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GOG.com\Galaxy and delete the key "refreshToken". Is this ok for you? I can offer a more detailed workaround if you need it :)

It did not work for me, in the "software" folder Only GoG.com appears, the Galaxy folder does not appear
I had to do this today as the problem started happening recently to me. The regedit trick seemed to worl.

Sorry to necro the thread buy others might want to try the regedit if they are having the problem.
If you delete the Purple Gog files in the directory, (not the crash report ), then download and install, it should work and your games should still be in tact also
It worked for me
