Hi, A few months ago My GOG Galaxy 1 Client would not update or load. I can't open the client up. I believe this is because of the 2.0 version. Upon aiming to re-downloading GOG, I noticed a message saying GOG Galaxy 2.0 is for WIndows 8 or newer.

If I can't use GOG galaxy 2.0, then can I just revert to the previous one I had used before? I just want the client to work on Windows 7 so I can access my games, which I thought I could do indefinitely (which is the appeal of DRM free games).

Thanks!

BTW, please don't send messages like "Just update your OS Bro!". I can't update My operating system because I have software that doesn't work on Windows 10, which I need for work.

You don't need Galaxy to access your games - that's the point of GOG's existence. You can download and use offline installers, as long as you want.

I see, thanks for the reply. I took a chance and installed GOG 2.0 anyway, and it seems to be working (currently installing games again). I trust if I make desktop icons of my games, I can play them through clicking them, even when GOG is uninstalled?
Just update your system to Linux, bro.
Or buy a refurbished machine from the office.

You don't need Galaxy or any client to use GOG. It's basically fluff software. You can download and install games freely without even once thinking about it.

Now, personally I use Lutris (as GOG Galaxy doesn't exist for Linux), but I use it as an organizer, pointing installed games over at it.

If you install a game through Galaxy, the automatically created icons will launch the game through Galaxy. To be able to launch the games directly you need to manually do a shortcut to the game's .exe file. Shortcuts created automatically through offline installers will launch the game directly however without the necessity to create icons by yourself. It's your decision which method to use for your games. :)

OK, good to know! Thanks for your help!

Yes, Linux does sound good. But as I mentioned I need my other software to work and Linux doesn't support some of the software I need to use either! Thanks!

You'd be surprised how many strides Wine has made thanks to Valve, but I understand.
BTW, the offline installers are downloaded through the website. Gog.com -> login -> Rudds -> games -> downloads.
Don't click the big misleading blue button as it will install Galaxy anyway, check attachment bellow:

Directly link to the library: https://www.gog.com/account

Also, if the OP uses an ad blocker that allows custom filters, he/she could block the blue button with the ad blocker.
If I remember right, this is what I put in my custom filters to hide the blue button:

www.gog.com##.game-details__galaxy-btn.btn--blue.btn
www.gog.com##.game-details__galaxy-installer > .game-details__galaxy-message

Alternatively, the OP could use custom downloaders such as gogrepo, gogrepoc and gogcli. All should download the installers not bloated with Galaxy by default

Nice, worked like a charm.

A workaround to use galaxy on Windows 7 without updating.

Uninstall Galaxy.

Delete files:

C:\ProgramData\GOG.com
C:\Users\All Users\GOG.com
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Configuration

Download offline installer:
https://cdn.gog.com/open/galaxy/client/2.0.37.384/setup_galaxy_2.0.37.384.exe

Install, but don't launch

1) Delete C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\redists\GalaxyUpdater.exe

2) Add "/runWithoutUpdating" to the Galaxy shortcut

- Right click short cut, properties, "Target" box
- append a space and "/runWithoutUpdating" at the end (without quotation marks)

3) Disable Galaxy autostart in settings
The previous old version isn't necessary anymore, Gog's devs kindly fixed the issues for Win7 despite it not being officially supported : )
(at least until the next time..)
