I believe I looked on forums about this before and found out that

Windows 9x is not officially supported under DOSBox but I hope this can help, I believe that is shows a step by step on getting it to work on the windows you want. GL and all the best!!

That desktop icon includes Galaxy, so that's normal that doesn't work, you need to go in game folder

I remember emulating 98 and using both included icons and got nothing to launch before. he might have luck and if so I hope he posts here to give us good news. love the startup tune on that OS so damn much.

It doesn't sound like they're trying to use DOSBox:

So yeah, I guess they're hoping someone can help them get the game running natively on Win98 (since it still includes DOS). Unfortunately this is outside of my area of expertise.

Oh?... damn I know DOSBox was used to get stuff from that era working on newer OS's but not the other way around. hey OP do you have a system with a new OS? or is this a project to get an old machine running the old games for the hell of it???

My interpretation is the latter. They have an actual Win 98 machine that they'd like to play some of their GOG games on. It sounds like they extracted the files on a new machine and then copied them across to the 98 machine to try and get them working there. Unfortunately I know little about configuring actual DOS.
Configuring DOS for games can be a pain in the ass. Nearly every game had other needs. It was often a real hassle to configure CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to get specific games to run. There were even games that I couldn`t get to run, because it was impossible to free enuff basic memory (below 640 KB) to satisfy the game.

I did some digging around and found out that the DOSBox stuff is patched for Windows XP and later to work so DOSBox stuff will not run at all from the looks of it but anything using Nglide or just regular games you can get to work with tweaking if needed, I see some vids on YouTube show how to get those games to run but nothing on DOSBox. so maybe you just have to find those old versions that are 95/98 compatible and install that way. Sorry dude. but if a member here actually got them to work right then Please post reply.

Yeah I am thinking maybe extract the game from the DOSBox and put it into something else but it seems like no one has figured it out from my search results. if a blue can come here from the tech side of things and tell us if it actually is possible or just not, that would be amazing to know.

The actual game files that run within DOSBox are native DOS files so there's no reason they shouldn't run on real DOS. It's just really tricky to set up. Hopefully a DOS expert will come along.

I think they've already extracted it from DOSBox, that's the easy part. The tricky part is configuring 'real' DOS.
