I've reached the maximum storage limit for Witcher 3 saves on the GOG Cloud, and I've deleted the game files. I deleted all the save files through the menus IN-GAME, as I read based on search results on the forums. However, instead of syncing to the current status (i.e. I deleted all but one save file I need for NG+), GOG Cloud restores every single old save. Now I'm back to square one with Witcher 3 saves taking up the entire storage quota, because the GOG Cloud keeps restoring them.

I tried doing this a few times, but it's getting tiresome to manually delete the save files one-by-one in game, closing the game, only to have GOG restore it all.

I've also tried deleting the save files directly from Windows Explorer too. This has the same effect.

So, what can I exactly do for the GOG Cloud to not restore old saves but to sync to my current status of having old save files deleted and me having just the 1 save file I need? Thanks.

It seems as if there is a problem with the syncing. Normally Galaxy simply takes what's on your HDD and uploads it into the cloud. So if you actually have deleted the files in game they should have deleted on your HDD as well and therefore the syncing SHOULD delete them in the cloud as well.

There is one thing you COULD try. Deleet the files in game and while still in game ALT+TAB out of game and delete those files manually (uwing explorer) from your HDD as well. Make sure that you deleted everythintg on your HDD you want to. Then ALT+TAB back into the game and exit the game. Let Galaxy sync and hope for the best.
I've noticed this happening in Pillars of Eternity as well. I go to tidy up my saves from in-game, and all looks well, but the next time I start the game, all the saves have been restored from the cloud. This is not how cloud sync is supposed to work. :/

I think I'll turn off the cloud save feature for now. This is way too unreliable for me to entrust my 100-hour save games to.
I'm not sure if this will help, but try playing the game offline with the saves you want (delete the undesired old ones beforehand from your computer).
Make sure that the saved game offline will be newer than the one in the cloud. E.g. Make a new save or overwrite an old save file at a different ingame location.
After launching the game online again you should be asked if the correct/updated saves are in the cloud or your computer. Select your computer.

I don't remember the exact phrasing, but it should be something along those lines.

I hope this helps.

Hey All,

Sorry to bring this up again, but did anyone figure this out?

I've tried what you mentioned. For me it's Witcher 2.
Every time I manually delete my saves, completely off the computer, when I start the game it brings all of the old synced saves again.

Thanks.

Try turning off sync, then deleting the saves, then turn it back on..? if asked which save to use, pick the local ones.

On Steam at least whenever this happened it was either, delete while the game is running (make sure to shut down properly afterwards), or delete from ingame (which yes, for some games is a pain).

Are you manually deleting them with the game closed? Because in that case cloud sync is doing what it's supposed to. This was already solved in the posts before yours: you need to delete the saves with the game running
Thanks all for the replies.

That's my bad, actually. Like you mentioned SirPrimalForm, I was deleting when out of the game; so of course, as cloud saves should do, they kept coming back.

For reference for anyone else, actually starting the game, staying at the main menu, and Alt & Tab out of the game, deleting the saves from the Witcher saves folder, then Alt & Tab back to the game, and quitting; when starting again with the Cloud, it is now normal, and just has the saves I had wanted to keep.

Thanks, appreciate it!
I read many topics and posts about Cloyd saves, all the benefits an ease they bring.

I found this topic:
https://bigdata-madesimple.com/5-advantages-and-disadvantages-of-cloud-storage/

i know about all the positive things cloud gives, but wanted to know more about the disadvantages
the fun part is they do not mention anything about downtimes, powersurges or worse, ofcourse thats maybe because they have multiple 'backups', servers etc etc etc ... which guarantee the cloud is always 'up'

Disadvantages of Cloud Storage

1. Usability: Be careful when using drag/drop to move a document into the cloud storage folder. This will permanently move your document from its original folder to the cloud storage location. Do a copy and paste instead of drag/drop if you want to retain the document’s original location in addition to moving a copy onto the cloud storage folder.

2. Bandwidth: Several cloud storage services have a specific bandwidth allowance. If an organization surpasses the given allowance, the additional charges could be significant. However, some providers allow unlimited bandwidth. This is a factor that companies should consider when looking at a cloud storage provider.

3. Accessibility: If you have no internet connection, you have no access to your data.

4. Data Security: There are concerns with the safety and privacy of important data stored remotely. The possibility of private data commingling with other organizations makes some businesses uneasy. If you want to know more about those issues that govern data security and privacy, here is an interesting article on the recent privacy debates.

5. Software: If you want to be able to manipulate your files locally through multiple devices, you’ll need to download the service on all devices.
okay lets asume you know you should NOT be using drag/drop to move a document into the cloud storage folder
cause the files will permanently move your document from its original folder to the cloud storage location
every one who uses a device that allows to drag and move files should know that, so this 'disadvantage' is not a real one cause if users ont know about the dragndro/move thing they should not be using the cloud.

So this one can be removed of the disadvantage list cause its basic and people should know that already.
NR 2: the Bandwidth issue, also not important and not a real disadvantage because everyone should also know this, if not should not be playing with the cloud, so this one can also be removed off the list :D
cause this is common knowledge.

NR 3: no internet connection, no access :D lol this one is redundant cause : basic knowledge

NR 4: safety and privacy of important data stored remotely. and more bla bla bla bla
off the list cause w ith data comes privacy stuff... so off the list it goes aswell :D

NR5: to manipulate your files locally through multiple devices, you’ll need to download the service on all devices.
a big facepalm, cause: basic common knowledge this :D

The most common problem : availability /uptime is not mentioned, all the other 'disadvantages' are known
and the offline /server down ( or worse : h a c k ed) are not mentioned, ofcourse they are logic and can happen a lot but that is the main concern, cause miliions of users connect to that certain part, while using local storage ( pc or mobile) to store game save/data is more likely to be available.

Anyway the 'streaming games are the future " is true, 100% , but if a service cant be reached the monthly fees are still deducted from your bank account :D while you may not have had acces to the movies. games and or other content because of 'errors' and refunds arent likely to be given because you were unable to watch your favorite series/movies and or playing games in the cloud .Looking forward already to have all data in the cloud only , no local backups cause that requires local storage, and staff, and that require salaries, but salaries do pay the bill, the streaming, no job= no money = no income = no streaming, at the moment people can still play and watch things even if they are currently unemployed also called in between jobs :D
Add to that the removal of cash , use digital only , and then payservers are down ...ouch ....
.
