mrkgnao: That sounds about right (although I'd probably say a lot less than 20). I don't think the publisher matters much. It's the size of the developer.

But that does not seem to be GOG's definition, as explained in my post, since Dorfromantik is, I believe, an indie, but not marked so by GOG (and that's just one example). GOG's definition of an indie seems to be "a game flagged as indie in the GOG catalogue by someone at GOG" and as such is not too useful.
Especially as they've already admitted on hand, that they use a database for tagging enties; when said database has been already prooven to be full of hilarious inaccuracies.
So I guess the problem is more with indie than with AA, and for some also whether old should be an exclusive tag or not.
One problem with more or less clear definitions of indie and AA is that there will be games fitting neither, so it'd either take one more category in between or defining just one and leaving whatever doesn't fit anywhere else for the other. And ok, I'm convinced that GOG's indie genre isn't the right way to define the category, but then any actual definition of indie would require a fair bit of research for a number of games, to see team size, funding, involvement of third parties...
Of course, Alexim said it's a personal project, so the definitions can be personal impressions, but if we'd be trying to come up with some more general ones, it'd probably be more useful to define AA and leave the rest for indie than the other way around. And that definition would likely also involve a list of studios, call them second tier ones (even if it sounds bad at first glance), that make such games, even if the list would be subject to change, probably more in the sense of smaller studios "graduating" into it over time. (The list for AAA is quite fixed I'd say.)
