I would add a caution. Google acquired DoubleClick (shortly after Gmail was released, 2004) because of their unique tracking protocol, now called
GooglePrefID. This allows them to track even those who do not use their products, creating a shadow profile using various means to single out individuals (like —but not restricted to— a static IP address). If you have ever used any Google product, the company has a broad base of foreign keys in all of its products to keep tracking you, even if you discontinue using that original product.
People erroneously think that the Interwebs is anonymous. I would counter that it is
permanent. Every electronic footprint is fossilized for posterity, and can be traced, given enough time, money and motivation.
Data ownership is shaping up to be the twenty-first century's correlate of Marxist angst: data is labour!
