Embrace the Darkness - Giveaway of Darkness

August is my birth month and I've been able to pick up a handful of games from sales in the past few months that I would like to give to you good folks. I realize they are from recent sales and so a lot of people interested in them probably bought them already, but, for those who didn't, here's an opportunity to get them! The GOG forums have really been a light for me in the dark times more than I can express here. There were lots of dark days where just a little bit of community and social interaction with good people did me a lot of good.

There have been a lot of dark times for me this past year+. It's by far been my hardest times of existing on this planet, and I'm not sure if things are going to get easier or harder, either. Things had gotten as bad as I had ever experienced before just over a year ago (I remember it was about 2 weeks before my birthday last year and I was feeling like things were worse than they'd ever been in life), and then things got worse. Then, there was terrible sickness and death, and then some more horrible stuff and then more sickness and death and more and more bad things, all through the winter and spring and now back into the thick of summer still there are bad things befalling me and those I love.

Despair and death and more death and despair and dark times have been abundant all around, not just for me, I know. I think the planet as a whole is in perhaps the darkest of its times (ecologically/environmentally, plants/animals, humanity/civilizations/societies.) Life on the planet in general is being suffocated and suffers from our destructive existence. It is in its most dire of times ever in its existence because of our existence, I am quite sure.

Sometimes I think perhaps facing these dark times is a preparation for more dark times to come, hardening my sensitive self so that I can bear the brutality of a fallen civilization gone mad and murderous even worse than it is now. I temper my thoughts. The human species is in its infancy of existence, and if it lives beyond its infancy, I think it has potential to grow and learn from all of this pain and suffering; as long as we are still able to exist in whatever state we leave everything after the madness settles. Although, sometimes I definitely think it would be better if nature were able to just get rid of us all. I can hope that if perhaps we are here long enough, we will figure out how to clean up all of our messes.

I've always been comfortable with the dark side of things. I believe in balance and that negatives are simply a part of existence, just as are the positives. Facing Truths of existence makes for a better existence. Being able to face the darkness is important in life. Sometimes in order to endure it the best, I think we must embrace it as an experience to be had and realize that the sweet will taste sweeter if you have tasted a more sour sour.

So, now, face and embrace the darkness and I will give some away to you, if you are lucky!

The rules:

- There are four keys in this giveaway and two of them have 2 games on them (a total of 6 games.) Unless you win both of the games from a single key, you must play FRIENDLY and TRUSTWORTHY and only redeem the game that you won and leave the other game on the key to the other winner. If you redeem a game you did not win, I will be very mad and sad and I will do inexplicably-bad things to you.

- If you see someone participating in the GA that you think is not trustworthy even if their rep is above 186, please send me a message with their name and a brief explanation as to why you think they are not trustworthy/shouldn't be allowed to participate.

- You must have a minimum reputation of 186 for the double-key games
- OR minimum rep. of 86 for the single-key games
- OR have created a giveaway that I have entered (link it please),
- OR have ever gifted me a game (whether it was a freebie, something you won in a GA, or whatever),
- OR, make an appeal to me via chat with a convincing reason/plea - I might make an exception (since 186 is somewhat arbitrary.)

- You can only enter for yourself and you must redeem the game(s) on the account with which you entered. You must have a real interest in playing the game, and your computer must be able to run the game.

- The GA will close when I feel like it, sometime in the month of August. It could be in a week, it could be on the 31st.

- Everyone entering has TWO entries to use! Enter for 2 games or enter twice for 1 game to increase your chances of getting that game. This allows people who are only interested in 1 game a more even chance of winning with those who enter for 2 and I thought it would be an interesting way to do a GA.

These are all games that I like and think are good and fun and interesting in their own ways. Also, of course, they are all DARK in their own ways.

the games:

· Nox (key 1)
· Clive Barker's Undying (key 1)
· Inquisitor (key 2)
· Pathologic (key 2)
· Chronicles of Riddick (key 3)
· PRIMORDIA (key 4)

Thanks for confirming HL3 dude! Game on!
Sorry to hear you've been having a dismal/dark year, drealmer. But as your avatar hints, we cannot have light without darkness, and darkness without forgetting to replace the flashlight batteries ;-) . I have been in very dark times, myself, about 1.5 - 2 years ago and I find after awhile, I tend to expect the negatives and so seem to miss out on the good times, though they may have been brief. I did, however, come away with a bit of insight. Just as a very bad storm will pass, so too do the dark days. I felt that knowing this helped me "wait out the storm". Also, I'm happy to see that some/many of us helped you in your journey.

Regardless, I wish you a Happy Birthday, and a year ahead with happier times!

If I may, I'd love to be in for the Chronicles of Riddick x 2 chances. This one's been on my wishlist!

*hugs*

I went through a very dark time of my life about 7 years ago. All I could see in the future was more darkness and sadness, and I couldn't tell myself that it would get better. But with help, I have gotten better. I've climbed out of the hole, and now medication helps my depression and I haven't been that low in awhile. I hope that you find the light in your tunnel, whether the darkness is because of specific events or just chemical/situational like mine. Hopefully you have people to support you, and I've always found online friends are just amazing. Like this community.

I almost want to say I'm not in, because your post seems so heavy and I just wanted to offer encouragement. But I'm a sucker for giveaways, so I'll enter both entries for Inquisitor. Thanks very much! <3 +1

EDIT: I'm a bit below the min requirement. You commented in a giveaway I did, but wasn't in, so I don't know if that counts. Up to you. http://www.gog.com/forum/general/giveaway_1/page1

Well, we can only hope that the balance is real and after the dark times there will be light and brighter ones to come. At least when we look back at the history it really is that way - we had the dark ages after which we had The Renaissance, so in this positive spirit I wish you a far better year ahead for you and the people you love!

Please count me in two times for Chronicles of Riddick. Thanks!
Really deep post, man. Yeah it is sad, what humanity is doing to the planet. Everyday, it bothers me that we are cutting down trees, polluting lakes, rivers and the ocean and killing off wild life. For what? So some people can make some money? It' sick. I'm glad GOG genera discussion has been a light for you during dark times. And I agree with you, that facing the darkness is much better than never knowing the darkness. If ignorance is bliss then why aren't more people happy? Ignorance is not bliss. Anyway, have a Happy Birthday!

I'm in 2 times for The Chronicles Of Riddick.

thanks obama...
Hey drealmer7!
I'm sorry to hear about your trying times! As cheesy as it is to say, the night is darkest just before dawn. I might be overly optimistic here, but I don't think this is the darkest time for our planet...just the time when we've all been the most connected, and every tiny issue becomes magnified. Again, I might be overly optimistic here, but I see a general trend by humanity towards improvement- as issues become more known, they become more stigmatised and less prevalent. For example, no more CFCs (yay!), which I remember had become a big issue in the 80s and 90s.

Anyhow, Darkness, Darkness :D
I'd like to be in, with both my entries for CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK.
Not in & +1! thank you :D

I'm a "Light" guy :P (this has so many interpretations :P)
Not in but thanks for the giveaway.
These are indeed dark time, but good people still abound in the world - they make us laugh and they love us too. There is always hope even in the darkest of places.

I'm in for Nox

and +1 for making us think a bit
Not in, but thanks for the giveaway. +1
