TheBigLLS: (snip)
Anyways, the understanding of the origin of the main villain just before the face off caught so off guard that my jaw dropped, I was spinning on my chair bubbling to myself stuff like: "Nooo.... It can't be.... Noooo...." and "Wow.... Wow... That's insane!!!" and ofc the always mature response: "OMG... OMG... OMG".

yarow12: I really need to finish The Witcher. I never made it past the large city with sewers and an alchemist in the 1st half.
If you can ignore the boring and uncomfortable combat (Just set the game to easy and play for the story), you will experience a serious mind-fuck of ending tailored to specially to yours previous choices.

I rate is a mind fuck akin to the endings of fight club and the sixth sense movies - 10/10.

Problem is that because of it, the story of witcher 2 never comes for being as good as the first instalment.

If you will ever find the time try to speedrun the game on easy just to experience it.
This is an actual situation I had while playing Might & Magic 2 "Gates to Another World." This happened over 25 years ago, and while the core of the story is true, I'm embellishing whatever minor details I can't remember (and adding some nice flavor text as well)....

Nightfall came as it always did, with each of us arguing over who would take which shift while guarding the party. We were a mixed lot, most of us straight as an arrow, one completely without scruples to do the dirty work, and then there was me. I did whatever was asked of me as long as there was profit in it. I never give my birth name, but you can call me Sticky Fingers. I'm a gnome robber. And no, that doesn't mean I specialize in robbing gnomes. I'm just a robber who happens to be a gnome...although I wouldn't pass on a chance to rob one of my own kind. But I digress.

We were traveling somewhere around the Quagmire of Doom, in the world known as CRON. Strange world, this was. It seemed like a giant, flat rectangle, with a different elemental plane in each of the four corners. Everyone else in the party thought this was perfectly normal, but something in me felt as though a world should be spherical. I had a vision one night of a world known as Xeen, two separate sides of different worlds which could combine together to form a perfect sphere. It was as if the Ancients themselves were speaking to me...or maybe it was those funny looking mushrooms I ate at the local tavern that night. But I digress.

During my shift, I carefully pulled out what I could only assume was some sort of child's toy. I'd found it while disarming a trapped chest & pocketed it while everyone else hid around the corner. I should specify this was no ordinary chest, it was a black box, completely unlike any wooden or metal chest I'd encountered. It was shiny & sleek, made of obsidian would be my guess. I'll never know for sure, as I made it a habit of re-rigging every trap I disarmed to blow up within 30 seconds. I know, I have an odd sense of humor, but if you could see the way the rest of the party reacts post-looting as we walk away and suddenly...

**KABOOM!!!***

...the pansy cleric jumps into the barbarians arms, the sorceress whizzes around and fires off a lightning bolt at the already exploded chest, and the archer drops to the ground in fear. I give credit to the paladin, though. He's the only one who draws his weapon in a respectable fashion, ready for combat. He may be a goody two-shoes, but he's brave.

Where was I? Oh yes, this toy I found in the black box. It was strapped to the underside of the cover. Not the brightest spot to hide something (I'd have gone with a false bottom, myself), so I figured it probably wasn't worth much. But there was something unique about it, so I kept it. It had a handle on it, with a cylinder across the top, and a trigger I could reach with my forefinger if I held the toy by it's handle. It almost seemed to me like a poorly made trap, seeing as the trigger was right there in the open for all to see. Only a fool would make a trap with a trigger so blatantly obvious, so a toy it must have been...but it was my toy, now.

I was inspecting the unusually thin copper wires running through it, wondering if this might be some kind of illumination device, like a magically powered candle. That would explain the trigger, it must activate it. And I knew copper was an excellent conductor of electricity. Yes, it made perfect sense! And then, we were attacked.

Well, maybe "approached" would be the better word, because it was so dark all I could see was shadowy figures. My instinct kicked in & I vowed to protect my comrades.

Well, maybe "I pointed my newfound toy at the shadows & squeezed the trigger, hoping it would illuminate the area" would be a better statement. To my surprise, an amazingly intense beam of light shot out & vaporized the first figure it hit! I was too stunned by the power of this "toy" to even think about waking anyone else, as the remaining figures advanced on me! I continued firing off shot after shot, vaporizing each figure as they approached! For once in my life, I felt like more than just a locksmith for hire...I felt powerful! Me, a miniscule gnome who hides in shadows for a living, and I'm picking off these creatures from a distance like an archer or sorcerer!

When each of the creatures had dropped, it was then I decided to inspect my new weapon more closely. In very tiny words, embossed on the handle were the words "Ray Gun"...wait a minute, ray? As in, a mere beam of light? Well I'll be darned. It's no wonder these "shadows" disappeared every time I aimed my "weapon" at them and pulled the trigger. It really was just a flashlight after all!!

I plead guilty in court in front of a judge who was less interested in my case than he was with my furry demeanor, and I was thrown in prison. And that is how I ended up here.
Nice. If not for the clean slate we all get, I'd say you just explained the backstory of the main character in either Daggerfall or Morrowind.
