Hey, I am planning to buy a new GPU, a GTX 1080 Ti 11GB, and I'm wondering how much ram is a good counterpart to that video card, so that my ram doesn't become a bottleneck. I currently only have 4GB of ram.

16GB DDR3. Maybe 32GB. But 16 definitely. What's the top end on your mobo? That's more likely to be a factor than how much you want to get. If your mobo limits you to 8, say, then 8 is how much you should get.

Well, I would suspect 8gb is minimum really for any heavy game, though I would really advise to go 16gb or above (I just note that at least one game already recommends 16gb as minimum). I got 32gb on my machine and it all runs fine. I would also recommend getting the highest mhz ram you can, 2400mhz upwards, although that can get expensive. Not sure what the relation is between more capacity versus higher speeds, I would imagine you need a balance between the both, so if it was a choice between 32gb @ < 2400, and 16 @ > 2400, I would likely go for 16gb.

Have a look on some of the "best xyz" sites like pcgamer, Corsair always comes up in those lists. Its also generally the most expensive. Nice G-card by the way, its one up from my 1080 ftw.

A quick scan of the NewEgg reviews points out that the motherboard doesn't work with some video cards.

Normally I wouldn't put much weight into those types of reviews since none of them actually mention the video card(s) they're using (*sigh*) but a couple of them are fairly well written.

Having said that, I think the motherboard looks like a Lego kit. :)

with that GPU, certain games (Ashes of the Singularity comes to mind), the CPU becomes a bottleneck (seriously. Look at PC gamer's review of the EVGA GTX 1080 ti SC). That said, 4x8 GB RAM sticks or 2x 16 GB RAM sticks for your RAM. I wouldn't want more RAM than my GPU's VRAM5

definitely at least 16 , ideally as 2x8 so you can expand more in 2-3 years. When i still had "only" 8 GB i was already experiencing "ram overflows"

16gb is the sweet spot of price/performance, but 32gb is what you want if you have the cash and you want to prevent further price gouging by the memory makers, which is inevitable.

EDIT: You want to get 2x8 for the 16gb, or if you eventually want to go to 64gb with that mobo (I believe it has 4 dimm slots, but I forgot already) then get 2x16gb dimms if you're going with 32gb for now.

More memory is never bad, but 16gb is the most common afaik among gamers right now.
