I imagine (can't remember precisely) that in Delta Force 1 and 2 there are several missions where you have to fight some rebel forces. Ditto for the Rainbow 6 games.

Breja: I assume you mean the CLone Wars, with Republic fighting the Separatists, like in Republic Commando?
avatar
Leroux: I guess? Like I said I'm not good with Star Wars lore at all. But this would fit the description of the rebels being the bad guys in a game then, right? In Republic Commando you fight for the ruling government as the good guys?
Yeah. I mean, both sides are actually being controlled by Palpatine for his own ends, but it's usually portrayed as Republic being "good" and Separatists being "evil".
Anyone else here all of a sudden have an uncontrollable urge to play some Republic Commando? XD

Who cares who the good and bad guys are, it's just such a great game.

I thought it was horrible, tried several times to get into it, always uninstalled after 30-45 minutes.
I really enjoyed the Jedi Knight games, but Republic Commando just seemed like a dumb, ugly console game with boring, linear levels to me.

At this point I'm a little ashamed that I haven't played it yet :P But that's ok since by all accounts its a great game to look forward to

Lifthrasil: I agree. For example the Russian invasion of the Krim was very distasteful...

Vainamoinen: Don't... just don't. It's so not worth it. The guy eats chipped Kremlin propaganda for breakfast, lunch and dinner. His only sustenance is the outrage he creates by regurgitating this argumentative excrement. We're never getting this thread on any kind of sensible track if people keep responding to the provocation. Report to support, then forget.
OK. Sorry for feeding the troll, if he is one. I'll stop.

With really good plot and likable characters. It's a shame they haven't released a second game.

i don't read his posts.

Not surprising that you don't appreciate quality posts like mine, you seem to have questionable taste anyway given you like boring, repetitive console crap like Republic Commando.
Syrian Warfare
Rebels there killing government officials, use terror tactics, take civilian hostages. All that just for personal gain, expecting to get high positions after ISIS take over.

Vainamoinen: The Longest Journey: There is an established order which has been in place for thousands of years, called the Balance, and you could call it a government that essentially decides on the fates of two worlds all at once. Opposed to them is the evil Vanguard, who by all means are "rebels", yet to my knowledge not called such in the game.
Because they are not rebels at all. Vanguard are just Stark Sentinels. Saying that Church of Voltec is a rebel organization is like saying Catholics are rebels against Orthodox church.

Lifthrasil: But for the civil war in Syria, I don't think that any of the fighting factions are 'the good guys'. A government that oppresses it's own people (including killing them) is evil. Rebels that bomb civilians just to make a post are nothing but terrorists. People like the IS who kill in the name of some deity are also evil, no matter what name that deity bears. Big foreign governments who prolong the war for profit or political gain are evil too, no matter whether they sell weapons to the warring factions or whether they block the UN from helping and intervening to end the war. And a neighboring nation that uses the chaos to invade is definitely evil too. I guess most of the civil, decent Syrian foks who don't want to kill anybody are either in Europe by now or are the ones currently being killed in Syria. Therefore I DO think that making a game about that is distasteful and I hope that GOG doesn't stoop so low as to sell it here. That game is much better at home at Steam, since Steam is evil too! (although on a much smaller scale)
So basically you say that GOG shouldn't sell games in which you play for bad (or just not very good) guys? Even if you don't commit atricities that thos bad guys are (supposed to be) doing? Then what about all WWII games where you can play as germans or Japan? Or Vietnam war, during which US forces killed a lot of civilians?

nightcraw1er.488: I would have to argue that there isn't common decency or sense. There is some compassion for the week sure, however a lot of that is driven by the moral tax brigade called charity. There is however common lowest denominators which is where stereotypes and such like come from, it one groups "decency" is another groups "freedom". And there really is no argument for "sense"!
Haha :D
I would have a hard time proving you wrong.
But I can comment that even though what ever is calling itself or being called by some others as "charity" doesn't mean it has anything to do with it, right? So this common "moral code" doesn't make it impossible that there might independently somewhere exist, maybe hidden, something that isn't just a label, even in all of us, something humane :) Just because out of a common agreement it could be said "this is the best we'll ever get out of this" doesn't really mean shit, it's just a theory...

By the way I'm thinking the reason games were the focus here (at some point at least?) was because when you start talking about sides in real life events on a global forum, it would be unreasonable to expect we'd all be agreeing here :D Even though GOG forums have otherwise been so peaceful :P
