Darvond: To be honest, I'm not entirely sure that darker themes even have a place in such a series.
Why? Sonic Adventure 1&2 are ones of the most popular games in the franchise and they dealed with not-so-for-kids topics too. I personally liked Shadow the Hedgehog game, though I get that not for everyone - but that's why it is just spin-off.
The Walking Dead
-This started as one of the greatest gaming experiences I'd ever had. Then I made the mistake of playing it a second time realizing the choices were meaningless. I wasn't PLAYING Lee, I was directing his attitude about the situation. "You just got insulted Lee... okay be a nice tree this time Lee".

I am stunned that this game was so well received.

-Duke Nukem Forever.
Just watch this trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDlB2P1leRM
and tell me the final game lived up to it.

-Aliens: Colonial Marines. There is a reason I don't buy Gearbox games anymore. Well... two of them. Irony... swap certain mechanics between Colonial Marines and Duke Forever and both games would have been better.

-Umbrella Corps. No one expected it to be good... but I also didn't expect it to be so terrible that I would regret spending a whole dollar on it.

There's a difference between, "Not for Kids" and "This darkness is a pain which will never fade". Or most everything involving Muffles the Hedgehog in 06. Sonic Adventure 1 was incredibly goofy in tone. (Probably due to the laughable animation engine and half-key dubbing)

Sonic Adventure 2 was a warning sign.

sanscript: The Witcher 1 & 2:
just curious - have you played W3 before these two?
W1 and 2 are quite different, and while the second is definitely a big disappointment, first is one of my favourite games of all time.

also, another entry for GTA 4 here. big, beautiful, technologically advanced, bland, tedious and simply boring game. engine is really cool, though game is fun to watch, but not to play.

I'm not sure where you have seen this. Even in Sonic 06 there wasn't such doom and gloom.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: 1. Red Alert 3
Really? Personally, I consider RA3 to be an improvement over RA2.

Well, many consider Shadow to be the absolute personification, and Infinite doesn't win any points either.

WiteNoiz: Then they made 2 or 3 sequels? I'm scared off of any newer titles.
Lightning Returns is better, maybe give that a chance. Doesn't use the same combat system at all, instead it's more an action-RPG with a lot of customization for Lightning.
Reviews for Lands of Lore 1+2 suggest that people found Lands of Lore 2 to be disappointing. Could someone confirm that this was the case back in the day?

It was made to be much more silly than previous titles, its humor was more stupid than funny, its gameplay wasn't as rich and complex as that of 2 and expansion and its design was horrible; tanks and units were bold, cartoonish, ugly and dumb... Worst things for me, are the very balanced and noticeably nerfed arsenal of factions overall, the obligatory ally for single player campaign and you being locked out of part of the tech tree, for your unwanted ally only to have.

The only GREAT things about this title, are:

1. The women dancing in the event (for some reason, the Youtube video is down since years ago, it was so hot!), where gamers gathered for its presentation and to try out its beta.

2. The opening, title theme song, that in the expansion it had a woman-singers remix. Some other soundtrack parts, also.

3. Asian faction.

4. The cutscenes. Stayed true to the previous titles' "good vibe".

Infinite is a mess. I mean, it wasn't even shown what happened to him in the end (part of Forces story disappointments).

But as for Shadow, the whole point of Shadow the Hedgehog ending is that he got over Maria's death and becomes GUN agent.

To be honest, I never considered RA2 to have complex gameplay. And it was rather silly (especially Yuri's Revenge) storywise.

Of course, at the very end, personal opinions are just that; personal opinions. Needless to say, both titles have lots of likes and lots of dislikes. The somewhat general disappointment with Red Alert 3, though, was voiced quite loudly, especially back in the day. Personally, i believe it is one of those cases, that a game is good, but it is not good whenever compared to the previous installments. Something like: "Red Alert 3 is a good game, but a poor Red Alert title", of sorts. Like: "Thief Deadly Shadows is a good game, but not a good Thief title" etc.

I tried to like it, but the gameplay innovations and especially the forced ones, like single player ally and unavailable tech tree branches for you, was a deal-breaker.

I actually thought it was quite fun. Maybe the random transformations of your character pissed people off. That´s the only reason I can think of.

To be honest, I´ve never played the first one.

GreasyDogMeat: The Walking Dead
-This started as one of the greatest gaming experiences I'd ever had. Then I made the mistake of playing it a second time realizing the choices were meaningless. I wasn't PLAYING Lee, I was directing his attitude about the situation. "You just got insulted Lee... okay be a nice tree this time Lee".
Realized the same thing last week, I mean I had fun playing the games, but your choices mean nothing.
Ultima 5 NES version.

Unlike every other console port of a classic Ultima game (though I am not familiar with Ultima 7 SNES), this particular port is bad. By bad, I mean that it might be worse than many games that are famous for being bad, like ET and Superman 64. (If this version of the game were run at a GDQ, it would belong in the Awful Games Done Quick block.) You have problems like not being able to regain MP without dying, and the game dropping inputs (for something like 5 frames (out of 60) per second) on top of looking like it's running at a low frame rate. Also, one music track for the entire game.

This port was so bad that I was scared away from trying the PC version, though once I tried the PC version, it was actually good, unlike the horrendously awful NES version. (How did this game get past Nintendo's quality checks?)
Ok lets get this done:

FFX: Boring, had that oh so great watersports "minigame" and the characters were dull and sounded awful.

XCOM 1 & 2 (new versions): good games but was still disappointed because cant really destroy everything and the enemies spwan out of thin air.

CIV 5: did not have the same feeling as the older ones (just one more turn)

ARK : Jay its fun to play when you start and somebody kills you for no reason whatever.

Defence grid 2 : Played the first one over 100h. This second one is just boring.

Disicples III : Went running to the store when it came out... could not even get myself playing through the second map. It was buggy and the combat was AWFUL.

HoM&M 4: Would have been a great game if the combat map was not so bloody cramped and akward to play.

HoM&M 5 --> : okay games but boring ( Thank god for Wrath of God mod for HoM&M 3)

RA 3 : The gameplay was forced as co-op otherwise ok
C&C 4 : no just no.

Fallout 3&4 : Why do you meant I cant save my father WHEN I have power armor. you are saying that I cant go through glass but I CAN kill super mutants whit my fists?

New death rally: no challenge and uglier graphics than the 90s version.

Company of heroes 2 : I dont play multiplayer and the single player campaings were abysmal.

ok thats all for now. Sorry for the spelling mistakes, nobodys perfect.
