Hi, this just a sugestion, why you waste time changing the original game icons to a circle template? I am a Designer, and i can tell you that is bad design, it doesn´t look good, it is hard to understand and it takes the soul of the original game Art. Please be smart, do not change original Art. Maybe that is why i never got a game here, maybe i am not alone.
...Well, aside from the games which never had icons to begin with, there's the games whose icons were never more than 16 color 24 x 24 icons...so if not the circles for consistency, what would you suggest?

Why does apple make every icon a square with rounded corners? It's just as dumb there, yet here we are. I would agree with you in principle, but, like Darvond mentioned, some games are very old and do not have modern 256x256 icons. Some are 16x16, 20x20, 24x24. In that care I'd rather have a high resolution circle.

I'm sorry, but that is THE dumbest reason I've ever heard for avoiding a store. You do realise that you can just change the shortcut to use the original executable's icon, right? Or make your own shortcut.
While this has never prevented me from buying any game (I think this would be a bit extreme), I do restore the original icons each time it is still available from the game files. Even if said icon was 24×24px or even lower.

I only use the GOG-provided icons for DOS-era games that never has an icon to begin with. Most of the time these icons are unreadable because they use game art that is supposed to be seen at a very high resolution, like 256×256px minimum.

Be surprised as to what you design tbh.
I dont use icons, i just run the game from the games folder.
I suppose the adjective iconoclast is apt here …?

I am a purist in this subject... You do realise that gog is not the only game store in the market, right?

I could design any style of original icons and do better icon templates...

Like it is suppose to be... old, low resolution, or if it has none, just leavet it that way, original concept.

GOG is not just another store. GOG is the largest DRM-Free game store, whereas every other large store is using DRM.
There are other DRM-Free stores out there, but they are significantly smaller.

Also, like I said, GOG does not alter the the executable or replace the icon. Simply make your own shortcut to the executable. This is a complete non-issue.
