darktjm: Hmmm.. this game no longer works on my system, so I can't test the mod I downloaded. I should also mention that my first choice, "Phat New Bonus Battles", could not be downloaded.

PookaMustard: That's strange. What error did that mod throw?
I got defq working on my machine again; it apparently doesn't like fullscreen mode any more. Anyway, I tried downloading a few more mods, and found quite a few that don't download. I can't really say why, without debugging the downloader, but my guess is that there is a per-mod setting that allows individual mods to refuse to be downloaded. Either that, or there was a date before which all mods were non-public by default (although the newest mod there is one that wouldn't download, but maybe updating doesn't count).

I think the mods would work on the gog version if they were compatible, but the mods I downloaded were all too old. I manually increased the advertised version number of one mod and it did show up, so there's no reason they wouldn't work. They are also zip files, and the game offers to install mods directly from zip files, but that always hangs (maybe due to them being too old, or maybe that function is broken on Linux).

In any case, with just 17 mods on Steam Workshop, maybe it's not worth worrying about.
If there's one game crying out in need of modding, due to it being a sandbox, it's Kenshi. While there are some mods floating around on Nexus and ModDB, many are out of date and unsupported, while the overwhelming majority are exclusively on Steam Workshop.

I have made polite requests at the official Lo-Fi games forum for creators to post them elsewhere beyond Workshop, though the very best and most up to date mods for Kenshi remain locked at Steam to those of us who didn't buy the game there.

Just one more reason why I absolutely abhor anything to do with Steam(ing shit) and the 'exclusivity' of Workshop.

Oh how fun. At this rate, might as well keep it under "WORST" in the "don't work with GOG" section, or at least provide an addendum that this game is iffy.

Was looking yesterday at games that released on GOG recently, and found about Kenshi and swiftly added it to WORST.

Yeah, I abhor Workshop just like you do, and it's already bad even if you're a Steam user. Extremely liimited, providing only the two controls of Subscribe and Unsubscribe, as opposed to the degree of control mods are associated with. The worst thing is, this system lumps all the power users with the idiots - as is everything Steam.
