In my years of gaming, I did not see any publisher not want to publish a game because of the opinions of "gamers". This is probably the first.

Can CDPR clarify this position? Been a long time promoter of GOG services and CDPR games, and this is the first time I've ever seen a bizarre twist of actions.

Any particular rea$on why this is the case?
If they decided to sell it, there's a big chance that China would ban GOG and all CDP games from China. Simple as that.

That's it, that's the whole point why the explanation about "messages from gamers" is nonsensical. People who don't care about a game just won't buy it and will move on. I don't even know how many games there are here on GOG, and I probably don't care for most of them. Would anybody be genuinely bothered by a single additional game being added to GOG to the point that they were willing to spend their time writing "messages" to stop it? I highly doubt it.

The only circumstances I recall when people would argue against a game being here on GOG is when the GOG version is somehow deficient in one way or another (missing features, no updates, etc.). But this usually applies to games already in the catalog. Has it ever happened that people protested against a planned release on GOG in advance of it?
