Linko64: BAD FMV GAMES ARE BACK BABAH!!!
Not that idiotic videogame journalist meme again. :O

rtcvb32: Now it's coming today with games in the 100+Gb size (and no hosting costs because Steam and other services will host it), you can put as much as you want in it. FMV games can easily fill that up especially with HD video encoding.

But you can only really do so much with a FMV game... Action/reaction of some type.
If you think about it there's lots you can do with FMV. Most games could be full of FMV e.g prerendered FMV backrgound in isometric games instead of static pictures. Some vertical shoot em ups did this too
Tex Murphy had 3D static views now we have 3D movies that you can look around in.
With todays technology more should be possible such as dynamic fmv or layers or elements and so on.

TheMonkofDestiny: Weirdly, it isn't. It's aiming toward catering to another fantasy though, with the "noble" moderator angle and all that.

A lot of the controversy surrounding it seems monumentally overblown though. It also makes me wonder if it were just a more straightforward "hey look, nudity and sex!" type of title, that it would likely be ignored or dismissed by those kicking up dirt at it currently and ultimately just forgotten.

Essentially all the outrage is probably going to help drive sales on it, assuming Wales Interactive doesn't shelve it entirely at least.
Most of the people that's gotta kick up a fuss about this kind of shit do so for the drama and attention and to feel righteous. Most of it is just for pure drama and "victim points". But that's the Internet for ya.

Edit: a word.

Actually they are some who DO believe in such things possibly corrupting people & etc.

Source: As one who spends some time on some of those sites, I can say with near certainty some very likely are that way.

So I didn't think this was gonna be good (more funny) but it's kinda sad that they seem to have retracted it.

Really? Oh well...likely due to moral outrage and few loud voices, as always.

They should raise funds somehow and sell it on their own site....might be fun to play for a bit for some.

Mhmmm... and some titles for games too. Baulders Gate Dark Alliance has a FMV/Video background.

There's two main reasons someone might do a FMV for background or other.

1) Hardware can't do it, or it would be too damn slow
2) You can't program it and you'd film it instead. (not CGI)

Though you don't need a full video either. I'm reminded of FF7, it wasn't FMV but high quality background pictures, with animated parts... so basically a animated GIF that would cycle through to make lights blink, smoke stacks with moving clouds, spinning windmills, or other activities work that didn't have game sprites, etc.

Often it's a tradeoff. But today's hardware and space limitations have mostly removed those.... If you can program the background to animate on the fly, then that would be great, if you can't you can pre-render and compress to a degree and get a similar effect, though may depend on if the pre-rendered takes up less data than the elements to make it... So i guess 3.

3) The pre-rendered background animations takes up less space (by a significant margin) even if the hardware could do it.

I kinda wish they'd go back to some of the heavy limitations of older systems for a basis, and then upgrade the graphics/sound for the next system up (on polygons, sound quality, etc) but keep it based incredibly simple for the core game...

Update: (Video is by TheQuartering, who also made a prior video saying that he will be streaming the game...likely on YT....when it comes out)

To be honest the game is meh at best. I just dislike the title because it imply gamer girls mean a bunch of women in skimpy clothing streaming their gameplay. In reality actual gamer girls are just normal people sitting cross legged in pyjama or t shirt playing games while shoveling potato chips into their mouth.

It will be better if the game is called Streamer Girl but I guess they want controversial points I guess.

Dunno, but agreed....that title would be a better one.
