If it series were allowed - Fallout and Ergo Proxy.
Star Wars - Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Mostly the land combat part, but damn there's like a ton of similarities between the two.

Also Star Wars - Master of Orion 2

The Long Dark - The Edge.

BenKii: Ok, I have one obvious comparison.

Mass Effect --> Star Trek

Breja: I think Mass Effect has way more in common with Babylon 5, to the point where it seems hard to imagine B5 wasn't a huge inspiration for the games at the outset.
Ahh, I see... I never watched Babylon 5 but had always heard that DS9 had ripped it's story off of it.

Tokyo_Bunny_8990: Given the fact that many game directors are movie fans, I wouldnt be surprised if quite a few games are heavily inspired by movies.

Metal Gear Solid 3 and James Bond/Mission Impossible

Days Gone and the Walking Dead (tv show but I do honestly think Days is the closest experience to living in the Walking Dead world)

God Eater and Pacific Rim (no mechas but you are fighting Kaiju basically)

Freelancer and Star Wars (from a Han Solo perspective)

Kena: Bridge of Spirits and How to Train your Dragon/Brave

Dead Space and Alien

Sleeping Dogs and Infernal Affairs/The Departed
Big Boss with James Bond is a shoe-in, but Mission Impossible pairs better with Solid Snake's half of the story. And despite the space setting, I daresay Dead Space more perfectly matches the body-horror of The Thing.

I can't recommend it highly enough. I consider it the best tv series I've ever seen. I wouldn't call DS9 a rip-off, the two had very different stories, but there definitely are similarities in the set up (space station, tough as nails female first officer, eventually a big war, two alien races with a history of one having conquered the other and being recently forced out). B5 even took some shots at DS9, but really each series is entirely it's own thing. If you like DS9 there's an excellent chance you'll love B5, but not much of a chance you'll feel like you've seen it before.

I also love this outtake. What a time it was to have two such shows on the air at the same time.

Thanks. I'll have to go hunt up the Bluray for this show. :)
StarCraft - Starship Troopers
Humans pitted against massive hordes of aliens bugs.

Until dawn - The Cabin in the Woods
The fate of a group of people is played out by someone else.

The Forgotten City / Loop Hero - Edge of Tomorrow / ARQ
The "hero" has to loop through the same events in order to save the "world".

Bro, Helldivers is right there in spite of Sony's best efforts.

LegoDnD: Dead Space more perfectly matches the body-horror of The Thing.
Comparisons can be drawn, certainly. But, erm... I think they only match because of the twisted morphology of the creature(s). The settings are highly different (though both draw on hostile environments the protagonist is stuck in ie space vs cold), BUT the strongest element of The Thing wasn't the creature itself per se but the paranoia surrounding the creature's ability to perfectly mimic biology. Where as Dead Space (other than the creature attacks) plays strongest with the marker's manipulation of people's minds. Both similar but different enough to not be a perfect match.

Not that I didn't consider suggesting this pairing myself. They're close in some ways.

I would be more likely to pair Dead Space with Zygote, but even that lends from The Thing as well.

Dont disagree with Big Boss as Bond and Snake as MI. Solid is consistently for justice and protecting the world while operating with a ragtag team that often gets disavoed by the government while Big Boss does go rogue.

Dead Space is hard to match to be honest. The necromorphs do depict body horror like the thing but use body horror to shock and attack the player while the thing uses body horror as a last resort and prefers to hide in the shadows. You arguably play as the thing in Prey lol. I thought Aliens could be a decent fit since the necromorphs try to hunt down the player like the alien does, the obvious space setting, and the use of cobbled together stuff to fight back as opposed to traditional weapons (pretty sure Ripley's flamethrower was cobbled together from other parts and the mech suit was a work loader to move heavy equipment as oppoed to a combat suit). although it may not be the best fit either. Then again, thats what also makes Dead Space a unique and cool IP until it was killed by EA.

Also reminds me. Uncharted and Indiana Jones.
Carrion - The Thing
After 2 whole paragraphs explaining why Dead Space and The Thing are flawed matches, Swedrami makes the perfect alternative.

While we're at it, Relic Hunter was Tomb Raider in a Groucho Marx mask.

I feel like while obviously Uncharted ows a huge debt to Indy, ultimately National Treasure and maybe Sahara (I seem to be in a minority to really like that movie) feel closer the Uncharted games.

A pity the actual Uncharted movie was such crap.

Agreed. It does sound like a great pairing. ;)

If you're talking Alien, sure - that flamethrower appeared to be put together by the crew. If you're talking Aliens, no - that was a genuine weapon of the Colonial Marines. The only thing she cobbled together in Aliens was taping the flamethrower to the side of her pulse rifle.
