Hey, I just bought this game: star wars: galactic battlegrounds saga.
And when I start it up, it's black and white and after a few seconds the screen freezes. I can still click on things, I base this on sounds. I even got into a level, like this. But my screen still showed the main menu.
I've tried run this game in 256 colours, which fixed the freezing problem, but not the graphical problem. It's all black and white, and in game it's hard to read the text and a little hard to see things. it's a little gravel like.
It's like this for all exe files:
swgbg.exe
Battlegrounds.exe
Battlegrounds_x1.exe
CloneCampaigns.exe

There is also a sound issue, where the volume of the game seems to stay the same even if I turn it down ingame.

Does anyone know how to fix?
Don't give me dumb answers like reinstalling the game or something.
PC Gaming Wiki recommends an unofficial patch which claims to fix (amongst other things):

- Modern Windows support
- A DirectDraw rainbow color patch and wrapper

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Galactic_Battlegrounds

GOG forum won't let it link cleanly due to the colon, but go there and follow the Steam Community Link under the Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds All-In-One Patch section.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried it.

For the black and white screen/menu freeze, you can try using cnc-ddraw. It fixes a variety of problems older ddraw games run into on Windows 10 & 11.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try this now. I'll post here later if the patch worked or not.

I can launch the game without issues on Windows 10...

But from the description, it's the same problem that Starcraft 1 has. Killing explorer.exe before starting the game game should be enough. You can create a .bat file with a script that will kill explorer.exe - launch the game - restart explorer.exe when you quit the game.

Here i a link to a forum where the .bat file is described for Starcraft:

Just change the path to Galactic Battlegrounds.

Alternatively, just using dgVoodoo should fix it or use the wrapper that's already been linked.

Glad to hear it :). Mind you it works for a lot of other games as well, if you ever have the same or similar problems. I never had issues with Galactic Battlegrounds, but I couldn't play C&C Tiberian Sun on Windows 10 without cnc-ddraw.
