I've been trying to play Heroes of might and magic 2 gold on my laptop but when the game runs the display is really tiny. All my other games on the gog display the same way now. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Feels like your graphics chip is showing it at native resolution without stretching to fit. Are you using Intel onboard?

Edit: I just noticed that you already spent 81 hours in the game...so, the issue is new?
Prior to the issue you were playing on a desktop PC?
Or on a different laptop?

I'll second pds41, it sounds like your graphics driver setting has changed to native (i.e. "don't scale things up"). You need to open the control panel for your graphics drivers and change the setting. If you can't find the option, post screenshots here of the control panel software and I might be able to help. I have a lot of experience with gaming on laptop integrated graphics over the years so I'll probably recognise it.
Find the scaling option in your graphics control panel or in Dosbox. Make sure it is going full screen and maintaining aspect ratio.
Having a similar problem with HoMM3. Attempting to put it in windowed mode just has the game tell me to put the desktop in a certain color bitrate mode or some such even though the manual says 768p or higher is enough. Since it came out in 1999, I can only assume some issues arise from it being a Windows 95/98 game.

EDIT: Looking for a solution seems to require a patch that may not even work properly anymore. Oh well, full screen isn't the worst way to play it, I just prefer older graphics like that to not be scaled up so much.

It sounds like you want what the OP has but doesn't want. In other words, they want it full screen but are getting a native res centred image and you would prefer not to have it scaled to full screen. If you open your graphics control centre program and find the scaling options you should be able to select "native" or "centred". Those will essentially give you the unscaled graphics you'd get with windowed mode without actually making the game run in windowed mode with all the problems that caused for you.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I can do much with the graphics options on my display, and my Radeon software is stupid because software engineering is difficult and telling me to do a factory reset because updating it properly is evidently a Sisyphean task, and frankly I don't want to risk doing anything in case it breaks even further.

So if I feel like playing HoMM3, I have no problem playing it in full screen. I can still Alt+Esc just fine if I need to.

Fair enough. It would be an option in the Radeon software, but you're out of luck if that's not working. Ah well, if the current setup is tolerable then I guess you're right to leave well alone.
HOMM3 has HD mods that are pretty much essential for QoL. A couple are:

HOMM3 HD mod:
(modern resolutions - although the interface can end up quite small for resolutions above 1920x1080)
(interface improvements - more information, options to enable/disable pop-ups for minor events, new buttons to quickly switch whole armies/artifact sets at once)

Horn of the Abyss:
(A mod that includes the HD mod and adds some balance/bug fixes)
(adds a new version of the game with an extra faction - Cove (Pirates) and an extra set of campaigns)
(very much recommend this one - just be aware that the Necromancy skill gets a fairly heavy nerf in the HotA rules.

There are a few possible reasons why the display in Heroes of Might and Magic II Gold might be small on your laptop. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:

Check the screen resolution of your laptop. Make sure that it is set to the native resolution of your display.

Check the game's graphics settings. Some games have options for adjusting the display size or scaling. You may be able to find these options in the game's menu or in the graphics settings of your graphics card.

Try updating your graphics drivers. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues.

Check if the game is compatible with your laptop. If the game was designed for an older version of Windows or for a different type of hardware, it may not be fully compatible with your laptop.

Try running the game in compatibility mode. Right-click on the game's shortcut, select "Properties," and then go to the "Compatibility" tab. From there, you can try running the game in compatibility mode for a different version of Windows.

I hope these suggestions help. If you are still having trouble getting the game to display properly, you may want to consider seeking further assistance from the developers or from other users who have experience with the game
