I've decided to kill doctor morbid after I learned of what he was doing and saved. Now it seems that I'm stuck. When I try to save again or even just trying to leave to the next area, the game crashes and gives me that error message.

Is there any way to fix it without restarting?

More information is required. Are you using any unofficial patches? Are you using the GOG version?
I'm using the gog version and I'm using the vanilla version. no mods or patches (unless the game came out patched already).

Try this.

So the same happens in vanilla version and GOG version? Try using the Restoration Project and see if that changes anything. If not, find out if another experience it and/or suggest a fix on no mutants allowed's forum, or even send GOG directly a notice.

Also, using savegames from previous versions/patches/mods can break the game.

I'm pretty sure he means the "vanilla" GOG version, so the GOG version without any additional patches or mods. However, the GOG version is already pre-patched to the latest official version, as far as I know. There is a semi-official patch 1.2.1 and an unofficial patch 1.3.5. You might want to check them out: http://falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Fallout_mods

Hmm, last time I checked GOG had 1.2 without the kids...

I stand corrected; I forgot that restoration project was for F2 only, FIXT is the one for F1.

I still have the "classic" versions here from before they had been removed, so I can't really say much about the current state of the games on GOG. But yes, 1.2 should be the latest official version, as far as I know.

Also, yes, FIXT includes all other patches, official AND unofficial, along with a bunch of new stuff.

What version does they have? The same I'd imagine?

I still have an unofficial pack that were made "portable" by some guy long time ago, so I haven't used GOG's installers.

Apparently, the "classic" versions of the Fallout games now have the same installers as the "new" versions, so the main difference now are the extras which are missing from the new versions. But other than that, I am not sure about the differences between the new versions and those that used to be sold before they were removed, but according to what I could find in the Fallout sub forum, there are not many differences at all. The actual game version most likely is the same, however, the new installer of Fallout 1 appears to include a high-resolution patch. I haven't checked this myself, though, and I don't know if I still have an older version of the installer lying around somewhere.
So basically, the OP's problem is that he isn't playing with the latest unofficial patch.
please use game subforums, this is what they're for
