Hi gog staff (not sure if this will ever reach the ppl responsible),

i have been a long time gog fan. i try to purchase all new releases via gog instead of steam. however since the galaxy launch, there have been many instances now where the galaxy release gets the latest patches waaay sooner (days) or they are never rleeased via the regular gog download file.

i want to download all patches and install files and back them up on a hard drive. all drm free. this has been the main reason why i supported gog. now with the galaxy client i cant download the individual patches (it wont even update the game if i installed it via the backup function).

the point is, the reason to use gog over steam is quickly deteriorating for me, which makes me very sad.
please fix this asap, so i can keep supporting you guys with my money.

thanks.

Agreed that there is a delay between the Galaxy updates and the offline installer updates but a few days is only logical because the offline installers have to be build manually. However it should not be that there are completely missing offline patches at all and I would be interested to know which these games are. I am also sure GOG would want to know as well to fix this asap.

Galaxy gives the publisher the option to update the game's files themselves, which does result in said files being available sooner. GOG will get said files and package them and upload the new installers (and/or patches), but it does take a bit longer, especially if the publisher updates their game on Friday afternoon.

Any examples? This shouldn't be happening, though there are of course a few cases where it did happen.

Again, examples? I do update my local backup library by downloading the installers through Galaxy, so I'd like to know which titles have said issue.

Depending on the age of the installer, you may need to manually add the game to Galaxy, but it should update it as needed once it's picked up.

That sounds odd. GoG has had offline installers since the company was founded nine years ago. It is weird to imagine that in all this time, they had to manually compile each and every one. Or maybe it's part of the Good Ol' Games brand that each installer has been manually compiled with tenderness and care?

Yes and no. You can have a script that says "Grab files from this folder, add this image and this name and then package them with innosetup", which is an automated method of creating the installers, but it still needs someone to move the files to the proper folder and add the proper image and name.
Not to mention any potential testing done to the patch to make sure it doesn't break something.
