I have recently connected a second monitor to my old laptop. When I open some games bought on GOG, the screen goes full but the game screen resizes into a small box. I tried to duplicate the laptop screen so that both screens get the same resolution—which works fine until I start a game. Then the game on the second screen resizes into a small box, yet stays the same on the laptop. Is there a setting or something to try on the other monitor? This is only an issue on some games, while others work fine on both screens. What do you think?

Have you tried running the dos game in windowed mode, dragging it to the second screen and hitting fullscreen (alt+enter)?

Could also be something in the dosbox configuration settings in the "start" menu in windows.

I've tried that, but it simply snaps back to whichever screen is currently set as primary, and the problem remains.

I looked at the graphic settings for HoMMII (the game that I used as an example in the attached image), and they are the same as another DOS game that does work in proper fullscreen on both screens–Alone In The Dark.

Usually happens. Sometimes just takes a few hours.

Might also be worth checking the HOMM subforum if you have not already.
Scaling options are usually set per display in Windows, so make sure that for the second display scaling is also set to fullscreen with correct aspect ratio.

The weird part is that some games work in full screen perfectly fine, but others don't. I'll continue to investigate!

Perhaps the external display has an internal 1:1 scaling support turned on? It could explain why some of the games are working just fine assuming that both displays have the same native resolution and the problem only shows up with games that are not rendered in that resolution.

The game is most likely set to a low resolution and your monitor is not configured to upscale low resolutions.

You can try to:

1) Set the game to a higher resolution if the game supports that.
2) Configure your monitor to upscale low resolutions. Most monitors have a menu in which you can set such things. Consult the manual of your monitor.
3) Let your GPU rescale the game.

For details on how to do 3) see here.
