BobbyMarmaduke: havent tried that ,but does look similar.thanks
sounds like you have played it before:) was a manual game with the orginal amiga version(gametek) it was about the only book i read:) thanks all ,maybe some day will do a remake we can purchase for are laptops
Made it to "Very Dangerous" rating. I don't want to think about how many hours I've put into that game.

I would suggest this post as the solution. Although it's not finished, it's currently the best Frontier experience you're probably going to get.
I don't recall for sure, but if you want the original Frontier game(s), the PC version might be preferable as PC versions of such games usually have analog joystick support, while the Amiga version doesn't.

That's why I much preferred playing e.g. the original Elite on PC, instead of Amiga. An analog joystick made the gaming experience so much better.

Just go with Winuae, I have Elite 2 Amiga on all my computers, it works very well and should be easy to set up for someone who likes a game like this.

Frontier is (IMO) best played with a mouse.

Btw.: There's a modded version of Pioneer called Scout Plus. Just checked it out a little and so far I like it even better. More alive, more to do.

I read a wiki for Pioneer saying it was still in development and had few missions available, so this isn't really a big surprise... I just hope their efforts get combined and one team doesn't do their own thing leaving the other to update to try and keep up...

From what I gathered in the SpaceSimCentral forums Scout Plus is updated regularly from the code base of Pioneer. The wonders of Git branching ;-). Scout+ is lagging a little behind (seen on the interface which is an older version of Pioneer, but the next version is already announced.

There's also another version called Genesia. In this case, Genesia is actually the original, and Pioneer has been a branch of it. I think Genesia had been abandoned for a while so Pioneer took over as the main branch. It seems it's now alive again, also on SSC.
Update: Pioneer Scout Plus version G24f is released: http://spacesimcentral.com/ssc/topic/3229-new-game-mod-pioneer-scout/page-27

I gave this a try and it's so slow... I have the impression no GPUs are at work, or if they are then only 1 of my 4 cores are working. Kinda annoying...
