DivisionByZero.620: Over the years I've been seeing an increase in misuse of the downvote button where people downvote for frivolous reasons including:
* Disagreeing with a post or the person posting
* Failing to thoroughly read a post and jumping to a negative conclusion
* The post contains a topic or point the downvoter doesn't like
* Concerted effort to censor a specific person or valid topic
* Plain old spite or hate.
* Anonymous flame-war with no accountability; misusing the downvote as a "#$&^ you" button.

Tauto: It doesn't worry me that much, it's the ABUSE part that is annoying from the gutless snakes and the silly thing is Gog endorse it by allowing it to continue.As for my attitude,I say it as it is and the forum can lump it or tough it out.
Politeness,that's another good one Cary, you done the same thing in North by Northwest (assumed). I once wished a person ''Happy Birthday'' and got down voted so politeness is wasted in here on most:)

kai2: The problem with down voting is that it's easy and it is the very antithesis of discussion. Down voting is counter to the very point of a discussion forum. It is passing judgement without discussion -- without an interchange of ideas.

If you are offended or dislike a comment, respond... discuss (or don't and simply move on). That's the point of a discussion board.

If you feel threatened by a comment, contact GOG mods directly. Discussions should never descend into threats and they can lock or delete comments or threads and mete out disciplinary measures as they see fit.

But down voting at its core is dishonorable passive aggressive behavior. That's the sad truth.

I don't agree with many views on the internet -- and many on this board -- but my choices are either discuss or walk away.

Lastly, I think it's always important for those who are quick to down vote to look at your own views and examine your own thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Before passing judgement, know the strength or weakness of the foundation on which you stand.

StingingVelvet: The trick is to not really care about your rep that much. Just state your honest opinions and be relatively polite and let the chips fall where they may. It's not like your rep effects anything.

Tauto: Staff told me...........Very,very old news as that was stated a couple of years ago so don't hold your breath and they even had the hide to say down votes would be tracked/monitored and the perpetrators dealt with :)
