Maighstir: Curiously, both of my copies of Myst (copyright 1993, 1994, 1995) for the Macintosh has the CDDA branding -indicating redbook CD audio- but I can't find any audio tracks on them. Nor can I mount them in my main Linux box (and I can't be bothered booting up the iMac G3).

F4LL0UT: Heh, didn't even notice that games had that branding. Will have to take a look at some of my older game CD-ROMs (well, actually all of them are old, obviously). But yeah, also no version of Myst I've played ever had any high quality audio in-game that would indicate the use of audio tracks, it always had this low quality WAV sound. I guess it was just unnecessary branding, maybe by mistake or just to be safe.
As far as I know, they shouldn't have it unless they actually have redbook audio. The logo should just say "Compact Disc" (my copies of Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale have this) or possibly "Compact Disc Data Storage" (StarCraft, Diablo II), not "Compact Disc Digital Audio".

Dune 1 had CD release with awesome music and video clips on CD in 1992.

What, why nobody mentioned it? :)

Lowe0: The earliest one I can remember was Inca.
Hey, you're right -- never gotten around to play it, but it got a single long audio track. And it's from 1992 which is quite early.

Are you thinking of Dune: Spice Opera? (but no vids on that one)

Dune was one of the first CD games (if not the first), but it had midi musics, not CD music.
My first thought was Kiong's Quest VI, Sierra made such a huge deal at the time of the theme song "Girl in the Tower". I think they even got radio stations to play it.

Then it might indeed be one of the first games that used that. CDDA wasn't used very often because it ate lots of space on the CD. The earliest games I remember that used that were Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and Prototype from 1995, followed by Realms of Arkania 2 - Star Trail and Tunnel B1 in 1996.

Before anyone complains that I don't know what I'm talking about: When I say Prototype I am talking about this side scrolling shoot 'em up not the open world game from 2009. And while the original disc version of Star Trail was released in 1994 and only featured MIDI music and the English CD-ROM version that was released on one CD only contained the same music as the disc version there was also a German release on two CDs in 1996 that featured an extended in-game soundtrack in CDDA.

In know exactly what I am talking about because I own the games mentioned above on CDs.

ResidentLeever: Some earlier ones I know about are Micro Machines 2, Shadows of Cairn, Alone in the Dark, Monkey Island and Heroes of Might and Magic, but what are the first ones?
Far East of Eden (天外魔境 Tengai Makyō, lit. "The Devil's Cave Outside Heaven") was a Turbo Grafx CD RPG in 1989. It was one of the very first mixmode CDROM games with full CD music accompaniment.

As for DOS I don't know, that tech was relatively new in the computer world. Most use MIDI or Impulse Tracker until the early 90s

Classic! Do you know why this version has no vocals though?

Hm, I think CD release of Dune contained CD-Audio music, not midi.
Future Wars (1990) - CD version may have been released later?

The game was first only released as a floppy version, the audio version was obviously only introduced in the CD-ROM release of the game.

No it doesn't?

Well, he says in a comment: "This is the CD-ROM version of the game which had digitally remastered soundtrack!" "Remastered" *does* imply that this version was released later.
