The first game I'll be buying in 2024 will be Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.
TLDR:

Total War Napoleon
Total War Attila
The Fertile Crescent
King Arthur, a Knights Tale

as it turns out, i still had some unfinished business . . .

As the loyal supporter of CA that i am, i finally added 2 of their titles that most disgruntled me at their time of release to my library (note an sacred oath prevents me from buying any new releases from CA until they fulfilled my honourable request or tech improvements are of such major impact i just have to witness what it is for myself)

Napoleon and Attila. Both empire and napoleon are games that just did not present the honourable role of the elite warrior as i liked to perceive it in those days. It seems the term cannon fodder was invented during those times. Of course, throwing away lives is from every age and time. Put up peasants wearing nothing but rags and equipped with a rotten wooden stick against knights in their full metal jacket could be called anything but fair. The gunpowder age just introduced a number of advancements that narrow down the importance of the human factor more and more. Still Ukraine is putting up a good fight now aren't they? Or is Russia just blessed with an excellent motivation, who knows.
TLDR my romantic impression of tactics and fighting in the old ages is rated higher than of those wars fought in the golden age of humanity.

Atilla is a whole other story. I'm not one to let go easily and with Rome II being one of my most enjoyed titles, i just could not cope with the thought of destroying what i so meticulously build up those 5 years prior to the release of Attila. Hilarious Eh!

Spend some time last night in both introductions (a sort of tutorial that in napoleons case details a bit about his youth right up to the point he became a cavalry general) and i can say both games felt still quite relevant. The only thing i had to adjust, outside capping frame rates since 144hz or uncapped going to 400+ fps is a bit overdone, was the resolution. Texts at 2k just came out too small. So Napoleon went back to 1920x1080 and for Attila i just used some in between resolution 2139 x 1150. Both resolutions adjust fairly nicely to my 2k display.

The other 2 games i bought at the same time were.

King Arthur - a Knights tale. been on my wishlist for quite some time now, what i suddenly remembered
the fertile crescent. some indie rts mentioned in the nerd forge which i wished to support

I'm tempted buy Mobile Suit Baba just to support the dev because the game looks hilarious but outside my puzzle league.

Thank you g2222, you made me smile, xD. Well, I bought the game selling trading cards, so I didn't spend anything, ;-)

Fable Anniversary Edition

--- and ---

Easy Red 2 Normandy DLC

--- now ---

I'll see what's on GOG before the sale ends
King's Bounty II - Duke's Edition and Cramped Rooms of Death.
I had been considering it for a while, but with it on sale and only hours to go, I bit the bullet.

First "Game" I bought is the Endless Bundle (with Endless Space, Endless Space 2 and Endless Dungeon).

No real interest in Endless Dungeon, but at the price point of the other two with all that it comes with, went and got the bundle which Endless Dungeon also was a part of.
Wow, Fable Anniversary Edition and Easy Red 2 Normandy DLC sound like great choices for your first games in 2024! The nostalgia of Fable with its enhanced graphics must be an amazing experience, and diving into the Normandy campaign in Easy Red 2 is sure to be intense.

As for checking out GOG before the sale ends, that's a smart move! There are always hidden gems and fantastic deals on that platform. Hopefully, you find something unique to add to your gaming collection.

On a related note, have you considered exploring the world of game mods? They can enhance your gaming experience and add a whole new dimension to familiar titles. Speaking of which, have you heard about Modcapcutapk? It's a fantastic tool for modifying and customizing games, allowing you to unlock new features and explore different aspects of your favorite titles. Give it a try, and you might discover a whole new level of enjoyment in your gaming adventures!
