That's "shanked" not "ganked".
"ganked" is a mixture of "gang" and "shanked", implying it's a group of people doing the stabbing.
This term is mostly used ironically in gaming (it's associated with the whole MLG meme and I think it even originated with gamers rather than on the streets or something), indicating that the person who's been "ganked" had multiple users team up to stop him.
It'd be somewhat like, in Super Smash Bros., player 1 being the best, so players 2, 3, and 4 decide to make a temporary pact and all attack player 1 and only him, ensuring that he gets finished off before they go on to attack each other.

In case anyone's curious, the game in question that YGG is talking about is the MMO Pirates of the Burning Sea. YGG is inquiring because the game has kind of been dying as of the last two years, and the community is currently having a discussion as to a possible future publisher.
(If you want to see the state of the game currently, there are some fantastic videos by MMO Grinder and FlipFlopsPOTBS. Or, you can simply register a free account at burningsea.com).
While the game is already in the process of being accepted by a publisher, the developers have confirmed that negotiations have stalled. Steam AFAIK has already rejected the game because of the ingame cash shop.
Hope that clears things up.
