wolfsite: Good thing I prefer DRM free gaming.

_ChaosFox_: The hilarious thing is that most of the Epic Store freebies ARE DRM-free, at least in the sense that you can extract and archive the game folder and use it completely independently of the Epic client.

Obviously no standalone offline installers, but an improvement over Steam nonetheless.
Considering Steam also has lots of games that you can download with the client but then run without the client (DRM-free)... how is Epic an improvement over Steam? They sound the same to me in that regard.

As for "x application causes high Ryzen idle voltages / temps", that's been an issue since the 3000 Ryzen series CPU's due to the way AMD have installed Power Plans that reduce the CPU time to boost from 15us to 1-2us and also raised the minimum CPU freq from 5% to 90% (Ryzen Balanced Power Plan) for more aggressive turbo boosting which leaves them more sensitive to being stuck in a higher voltage state vs periodic background tasks. Even harmless stuff like MSI Afterburner, or CPU monitoring utilities cause it. From an AMD employee:-

yea i remember this happening with the r5 2600
out of the blue that ' balanced ' amd powerplan appeared wreaking havoc on my system, XMP failed, games felt even more overstressed then before. your better served with the powersaving plan then anything else for a fluid working.
those plans seem a bit useless for use with gaming, even if you own a laptop
its a bit unbelievable but the same thing happened again.

ultra performance norton premium power plan

continous l2 performance i bet ya, i did do a lot of gaming these past weeks

There was an article in italian language about overheating. The original in english language from Hot Hardware is here
I can tell you what happen on my system with an i7: I have in idle 19°-20°, sometimes even less, but when i use epic launcher even without logging in, temps can reach 30° and cpu usage is about 10% / 15%. I always use also steam and gog launchers but there is no such usage of cpu.

teceem: Ok, so where is the GPU problem mentioned?
In my post where I said so but if you want some other link I can find one.

It's a problem and with the sizes and other problems games have now even less people will be saving their games.

Increased CPU use affects Intel users too as XzAr_79 also mentions.

Only around 40-50% of Steam games will run without the client being logged in. On Epic, it's closer to 90-95%.
Epic have managed to screw it up again except the -opengl trick doesn't work during the update process that's throwing out the unsupported graphics card error.

That looks useful but I don't think it's the best idea to have to use third party tools with accounts.

Ha, game clients! No, thank you.
More controversy for posterity. Epic kinda likes that from time to time.

At least they steal megahertz, they don't install rootkits, that's on the likes of Riot Games.
Oh, wait...

I've had the Epic launcher open for a few months now because of Hitman 3 and I can't say I've noticed any issue. My CPU right now is at 1% utilization with normal temps, and Epic has been open for three days straight. This is not to say some won't have issues, I'm sure it depends on a lot of factors, but be wary of assigning a ton of weight to "reports" cited on random websites you probably never heard of.

If there is a consistent issue I hope to hear from bigger outlets about it.

There was a PC Gamer article about it as well as an official statement from an Epic employee confirming the issue exists. This was a while ago though.
