For balance reasons, now more community-driven sites are needed, since on the other hand big commercial sites are prevalent

Pardinuz: 7Digital. I will look into them further and see which one better suits my needs and musical taste.

phaolo: I checked 7Digital in the past, but then they closed their eu and worldwide stores without transfering user accounts.. that was a terrible anti-consumer move, so I don't trust them very much at this point.
Also I'm still looking for a service like Gog which doesn't add unnecessary limitations or remove content after purchase (which should be illegal FFS), but I doubt it exists.
Bandcamp was a nice option to have, but it was too focused on indies for me, I want 70-90's classics too. Also, it had no user ratings or reviews, a thing I don't like.
I've used it sometimes. European sites for 7Digital are still here. It appears a bit outdated and not curated as much as in the past though. They seem in hard times judging by this. At lleast I'm sure italian shop is currently running

Talk about a weird acquisition. o_O This can go either way. :/

Bandcamp is a one-of-a-kind platform for paying it's musicians generously and allowing me to download my high-quality music purchases. It also had a non-mainstream edge to it that I liked. I'm way too cynical to imagine Epic Games wanting to respect that business model. Hopefully, they do and prove me wrong.

Oh great now where are Cosby/Heartracer going to sell their music.

That was their only platform and the only Band I bought music from on Bandcamp.

They will not respect the business model.

The same Epic that's been pushing to increase the dev/publisher share of the proceeds from sales on digital storefronts? Yeah, I think they're not going to be trying to take the scraps from indie musicians.

As I said, things can go either way. But your perspective gives me hope. ;) If Bandcamp does evolve into something better and stronger, without losing face, it would make me happy. :)

Pardinuz: Can 2022 get any worse?

This is disastrous. Bandcamp ̶i̶s̶ was the best place to buy music and directly support artists. Now RIP Bandcamp.

The worst part is there is no real alternative, and my entire digital music collection is there...
Bandcamp and Soundcloud are one of the worst. I think HearThis is pretty good.

Tokyo_Bunny_8990: Well what Epic chooses to do next will show us their colors and their intended future.

They probably arnt going to be DRM advocates but they could surprise us.

Im more curious as to why Epic bought Bandcamp in the first place. Do they just want to be the store where people can buy all kinds of digital entertainment (games, music, movies, tv shows?)

JoaoPauloZA: I might be wrong, but I think they purchased it in order to complement their Unreal Engine Marketplace. So now in addition to marketing UE user-created assets, they will be marketing sound effects and music. So, DRm-free is out of the question for their business model. It's actually quite smart, as many developers today lack the knowledge or money to create a new game engine. It's simpler just to focus on game content rather than Engine creation. Thus, a one-stop shop for indie or cash-strapped devs. It'll probably just screw artists out of money.
From my understanding Epic Games is more media driven, than Steam is community driven.

Well hopefully they will keep Bandcamp Fridays. That's pretty big for me.
