ZyloxDragon: "Arrrgh! Humans think too much! Need to act now like a mighty orc!"... Roy grudgingly waits though. Glancing at the remains of Origi and thinks to himself that at least he has some food for the adventure now since he forgot to pack rations.
Fish the Half-Orc Berserker

Fish places his hand on Roy's shoulder. "The dead has no use of material things. Take what you can from her." The half-orc knows it's only a matter of time until the beasts in the darkness reveal themselves. With both hands gripping the great axe's handle, he is ready to chop down anything that gets within the range of his massive axe. With a calm voice he said, "Finish what you are doing Roy so we can show these puny ones how orcish we can really be."

Thanks, that's very kind of you. :)

FlockeSchnee: Disarming it was good. Otherwise one of us might step into it in the heat of battle. But maybe it can be re-armed once we are through?
Lets see if "Calming Animals" can be of use and if yes, how successful it will be.
I agree. I'll await Doc0075's answer to my question before making any final decision regarding the trap.
** TURN 2**

Western tunnel:

25 - BenKii - Human Warrior moves ahead to confront the new threat, the Stone Elemental and 76 - Shins A'Hoy - Halfling Thief beside him.

13 - Roosevelt - Human Paladin *rolls dice* strikes the nearest Nightmare to recoil in pain.

45 - Loradan - Elven Mage *rolls dice* uses Magic Missile wand on nearest Nightmare, it cause minimal damage, Loradan is lucky the the protection from evil spell stops the Nightmare from retaliating, for now.

58 - Tanea - Halfling Shaman places herself behind the warrior.

67 - Rufus - Human Cleric summons Holy Guardian and casts fire on his weapon.

74 - Yeenwi - Drow Necromancer casts Control Undead on a Nightmare *rolls dice* the spell fails to take hold. It does get the Nightmares attention though.

38 - Roy Jenks - Half-Orc Battemage throws a fireball blindly down the tunnel. *rolls dice* it passes over the eight Giant Rats as they come in to view and explodes harmlessly in the distance.

57 - Siegfried - Human Paladin attacks the nearest Nightmare *rolls dice* he misses.

40 - Gilius - Dwarven Druid - attempts to resurrect 20 - Origi - Halfling Battlemage but having been torn in two the spell fails.

I believe Roy Jenks said "Roy grudgingly waits though" and went to go loot Origi's body for "rations".

Are the beasts within view of my infravision to tell Tanea and Roy when to cast their magic?

( If you guys moved ahead as I asked, we should be getting closer to the rats and farther from the Nightmares.
Someone, maybe Siegfried, was holding a torch, so the beasts should be visible to everyone by now.
Btw, wan't Strigon also ready to fire his crossbow at them? )

( Ok, btw some actions are difficult to take without knowing some details like positions.
For example, I'd like to cast a spell on the rats, but I must know if someone is too close to them.
Also, are the beasts moving towards us, running away or are they still? )

I was having Roy wait. He was just "thinking" of Halfling finger food, haha. I dunno if orcs eat regular food or are more animalistic.
*Roosevelt grins with glee as the Nightmare recoils in pain. Nothing is as invigorating as punishing evil spirits who need to be banished. He hopes that the cleric and other paladin will engage these successfully soon. Hopefully they'll stagger their abilities to cover after Roosevelt's wear out*

"All of you, GO defend against the more mundane threat that must be lesser than this. Siegfried, Rufus and I will slay these foul spirits!"

*Roosevelt is enjoying himself fending off the Nightmares. The clank and creak of his armor as he moves is quite a ruckus*

"I will follow friends, I am holding the rear against these foul spirits as you move on, and I shall follow as the rearguard!"

[68 - Peloquin - Dwarven Thief]

Finally, I arrive within reach of the clan, but remain stealthily in the shadows at a safe distance. A swarm of 6 Nightmares is attacking the group ahead of me! And I just caught sight of a body ripped in two, blood and guts scattered about. Looks like it may have belonged to a Halfling Battlemage. Best I leave this battle of the Nightmares to those blessed with magic and such powers... Boom!! A fireball even further ahead explodes and reveils the pointed faces of 8 Giant Rats. Now that is a battle more suited for a dwarf! I study the path ahead of me to see if there is a way I can sneak past the battle of the Nightmares, undetected.

++++++++++++++++++++++++
High constitution. Leather armour.
1 x cure poison potion. 1 x heal potion.
Lockpicks. Trap disarm kit. Rope.
Ring of free movement - this ring means traps and spells to ensnare me will not work.
Shortbow and quiver of 20 enchanted arrows (paralyze).
Lucky dagger. Light hammer.

Edit: Put my actions in bold typeface to make it easier for Doc.

67 - Rufus - Human Cleric

"You aren't alone in this fight Roosevelt! Holy Gardian, help us against those evil beings."
Rufus praises the Holy Guardian to repel the nightmares from our actual plane, or, drive them away from the group and take care of those beasts.

"We should continue our way, now! We better leave them fight each other!"
Trying to convince the group to continue its way, Rufus goes helping the head of the group. He uses his Silver Light-Hammer on fire and his shield to smash and to repulse the incoming giant rats.

"You're right Loradan, the rats may escape another situation, or they may be just curious. Let's stay focus!"
"Roy, you can help us a lot here, could you take lower-half-Origi and upper-half-Origi with you? Whatever we do with it, half-resurrect, full-resurrect, ration, bait or flesh armor, we can deal with it later. Just beware of those rats, they will surely try to steal you some."

Time to talk strategy.

That was a disastrous round of dice rolls against tyhe nightmares. I think I have the strongest resource against the nightmares (Turn Undead), so:

Option A: I could cast Turn Undead to make the nightmares weaker and repeat our attacks. Someone needs to take care of the rats though.

But... Protect From Evil will keep the nightmares away from the next 4 (confirm?) turns, so:

Option B: we could just continue advancing down the tunnel, fight the rats together and then take our attention back to the nightmares. If Protect from Evil happened to fail or end before its supposed time, I can always emergency-cast Turm Undead. I (and others) have healing spells, so we could use them between the fights.

What do you think?

ConsulCaesar: What do you think?
( We should absolutely advance in case the monster(s) in the circular room decide to follow this tunnel.
So for me it's option B.
In theory I'd cast an AoE spell on the rats, but it could block our path if it's going to lasts more than 1 turn. )

(I agree. Option B sounds like the best course of action. I think it will take more than 1 turn to take out 8 rats so use whatever AoE spells you have on those rats. Also, if that trap can be reset we can set it behind us so the nightmares and the baddies from the central chamber will have a harder time trying to follow.)

(We could let the rats be bait for the Nightmares. They're not under R's protection spell, and unless I miss my guess, they're not affected because they'd be neutral. Let them come, flank them, the warrior classes tank as everyone else sneaks by, and then the warrior classes disengage and let the Nightmares descend upon them. If we move far enough along, the Nightmares may not follow, especially if they were appointed as a guardian at the entry point. If they do follow, the paladins and cleric with some help from one of the necromancers should be able to put them down. Roosevelt, however may need to be convinced that this is a good path. He likes destroying undead...)
