I tried to get the link to embracers own website but it is not loading for me.
Holy Moly! This gives me hope for remasters of Legacy of Kain, and hopefully a sequel.
Yeah, 300 Million dollars seems like...a lowball from Square-Enix. I know they probably just wanted to cut it off, but was it first call or no bids?

Here's Square's press release. In English, no less.

Yes, I'm double posting, because GOG's great formatting sanitation is doing a bang up job.

Square Enix states the transaction will "enables the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud."
JFC with peanut oil, grape jelly, and mustard, they must be out of ideas at Square.

[Snarkily, I wish the poor intern the best who has to update all the company entries.]

Wow, almost all of Square Enix's western holdings. Square still keeps Just Cause, Life Is Strange, Outriders, and some others. The press release only mentions that Embracer gets the major IPs like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Legacy of Kain, and 50+ back catalog titles, that should include stuff like Project Snowblind and Abomination: The Nemesis Project. I wonder if this means we'll see any of the upcoming releases come to GOG on day one. Anyone seen a full list of what Embracer acquired?

The link in the OP goes to a very disreputable SJW propaganda site.

No complete and comprehensive list of what has been acquired yet, from what I can tell.

Deus Ex going first.
So many old games ended with cliffhangers and sequel baits with no further games...

The video game world exploded on Sunday night with the announcement that Square Enix had sold its North American studio presence to Embracer Group. There are many questions surrounding what this all means for gaming, but one thing has become clear during Sunday's conference call: Embracer now has a lot of IPs and it's planning to bring a big one back. Deus Ex is about to make a return.

"At this time, we are crazy people who have decided to revive the Deus Ex IP as our first game," Eidos Montreal Studio Head David Anfossi said during the Embracer Group conference call. "A new team, a very complex production, a new tech, and a new studio, an easy challenge."
Probably a good thing? SE always had these wildly unrealistic game sales expectations for their Western-owned studios. Hopefully that'll also mean the nixing of any stupid micro-transaction shenanigans in any of these studios' future games.

I suppose that depends who will actually end up managing these studios. There are a good few Embracer Group-owned studios/publishers we haven't gotten much of anything from.

I'm not a fan of any big corp, but... literally anybody could do better with Eidos than Square Enix is doing, so I guess it is good news. Especially since THQ Nordic is one of the very few sizeable publishers without a lethal allergy to DRM-free.
I don't know how to feel about this, but Square Enix seemed to only care about Tomb Raider, from all the IPs listed. Maybe now we can get a new Legacy of Kain game, or even remasters/remakes of the saga.
Plus sequels to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Thief and Sleeping Dogs.

This might lead to new decent entries in popular series and more DRM-free releases of both existing and upcoming games. So, we'll see.)

Misleading article, that quote's missing that he was talking about the studio back in 2007, they haven't made that statement today.

That said, considering it's one of the 'iconic IP''s they're touting I imagine a game will be in the works at some point.

I'll wait and see before I get excited about "Deus Ex 5", uh, I mean "Deus Ex 4 Part 2". From what I understand, Deus Ex Mankind Divided was originally intended to be a complete full length game like DX1 & 3 (Human Revolution) but Square Enix (publisher) told Eidos Montreal (developer) to split it up into 2-3 parts, looking for $120-$180 for basically one story / game. The end result was a half baked release whose main story (15hrs) was barely 3/5ths of the typical 25hrs main plot length for DX1 & HR, and just like Dragon Age Inquisition was padded out with sidequest filler to make it seem longer "overall" than it actually was.

Throw in other anti-consumer garbage ( tiered pre-orders, pay-per-play DLC, etc), dumbed down "Deus Ex The Fall" for mobiles, etc, and the franchise was left a mess that was negatively received by a lot of people. If THQ Nordic can undo that damage it will be a good thing, but after "Thief" 4 I remain highly wary of a new studio trying to "go back to their roots" with new sequels to old IP without messing something up...

Square Enix was pretty good to us the past few years relatively-speaking, but hopefully this improves the odds of the missing TR and other possible games (like missing titles from Eidos anthology) showing up sooner than they might have otherwise.
