toxicTom: As I wrote above, Europe is Christian too, more or less, depending on where you are. But even rather "devout" countries are not as hostile (or phobic) to nudity and sex as the US.
To be more precise, those are the stances in the ethics and social mores fostered by the elite. The predominant one. Some of the subcultures in the country have been conflicting with the predominant one for a long time in that respect. By the way, this is a good moment to watch
