i've never played the gothic games but have always been interested in trying with the sci-fi being a big plus. I've also been trying some of the recent Obsidian CRPGs which i liked but not Divinity Original Sin and have heard the glowing reviews for the new Divinity.

which should i get?
Both are good. Add SpellForce 3 to the list. Maybe watch some youtube videos and decide what do you want most now, and get the other ones in future sales.
Id personally go with divinity os 2. Elex looks good, don't get me wrong, but dos2 looks to have a very fine level of polish.

Thanks said, i haven't played any of them.

Helix935: which should i get?
Elex or Spellforce 3. D:OS 2 turned out to be not as engaging as the first one.
SpellForce 3 isn't really something i'd plan to get right now but my wallet has room for one of these two games at least until christmas.
It depends on what kind of game you like the most.
In my opinion, Divinity OS2 is the best turn based RPG since the 90s, and Elex the best third-person action RPG since Gothic 2.
Just play the Gothic games and D:OS1 until ELEX and D:OS2 go on a steeper sale. That's what I'd do if I were you.

Divinity:Original Sin 2 is a game that every RPG fan should play. The freedom of choice you get while forging your path is like nothing you've experienced before.

Elex is not a bad game,it is good but it is not as good as Divinity: Original Sin 2.

If you can't get them both, Divinity: OS2 should take priority.
Regardless of which one is better (can't say anything about them as I haven't played either) as a rule of thumb Piranha Bytes' titles tend to be a buggy mess at launch, so I'd wait at least a few months before even considering to buy ELEX.
I've played both for 60+ hours. Elex is less polished and has a fair bit of the patented vertical difficulty curve of other Piranha Bytes game but so long as you don't mind running away from anything dangerous for the first 10-20 hours it's very good and has some of the best exploration of any game I've played. I had no crashes at all (barring a bad driver which crashed consistently but clearly wasn't the game's fault) and most of the other bugs were minor things like quests not being marked completed and dialogue quirks.

OTOH I really liked Original Sin (1) but didn't like DOS2 much at all. It's far more well polished and technically refined than Elex, but the changes to initiative and the addition of a Mass Effect style shield system as compared to DOS1 absolutely killed it for me in the end and were worse than the problems they fixed. The reactivity is pretty good and the story is OK (never Larian's strong point really) but there's just so much combat and... people say it's well balanced but I really cannot agree. Summons make the game far too easy (and are an absolute nightmare if used against you), the shield system encourages you to only attack opposite type enemies (ie warriors to attack mages and reverse) and the archer class with special arrows relying mostly on magic shields being down are badly nerfed since the arrows themselves damage physical shields- so their statuses are almost never applied successfully.

Still, I suspect most people would actually like DOS 2 more than Elex, especially if they hadn't played the first game.
