Huinehtar: Here are very quick scans of my own personal Dune Encyclopedia copy (sorry about the poor quality), and yes indeed, the mentions of House Ordos are very light and even not in the direction Westwood chose.
But I added the first page note from Frank Herbert himself, as he was very interested in how fans can expand the Dune universe he created. Sure the Dune games and the Dune Encyclopedia have their own flaws, but none of them were poor quality fan fictions in their very own media, and especially considering the times they were released. I believe that Frank Herbert was compliant and relatively open minded (sure he despised Heavy Metal and refused the tribute Iron Maiden wanted to give him to, for instance), David Lynch's Dune was made after all...
But, hey Frank Herbert already took many inspirations from another Space Opera: the Instrumentality of Mankind from Cordwainer Smith (aka Paul Linebarger)...

As said Chateaubriand, "il ne faut pas être plus royaliste que le Roi" ("you needn't be a better royalist than the king").
A Dune "Extended Universe" could have been a thing... But just as Star Wars... *couch*.

Another funny thing, is the mentions of the Butlerian Jihad: the Dune Encyclopedia mentions Jehanne Butler, and Herbert & Anderson mention Serena Butler.
But in the end, it's a wink for Samuel Butler, the author of the books Erewhon...
That's incredibly interesting, thanks for sharing :)

Crosmando: There's a new Dune movie coming out this year so I think if GOG wants to find the rights to the old games they'd be best to approach whoever is publishing the movie, they might be interested as a way to promote the film.

Ixamyakxim: Shut the fuck up - theatrical release? Paid subscription series? What's the deal with it - I haven't heard anything yet. What book(s?) is it going to cover?
It's a theatrical release, and it's going to cover the first half of the first book, it's coming out at the end of this year I believe, which is probably why you haven't heard much (google "Dune reboot"). It's actually looking like it might be decent, as it's the same director as Blade Runner 2049 and he says it's going to be much closer to the book than the 80's film.

I personally feel a TV/Streaming series of 1 hour episodes would serve the book better as they have never been able to fully capture the book within the time restraints of a movie or even mini series. The original movie, while visually stunning for the time and the music really stands out it cut out way too much and dumb-ed a lot of things down for a casual audience. While the TV Mini Series, though had a longer time, still had to cut down and streamline a lot of elements - plus they merged the second and third book together for the second mini series which was a fatal mistake.

tellice: I would love to see the Dune games (Dune 1, 2, 2000, IV and Empror: Battle for Dune) on GoG.com i would pay this instanly. Love this games and would so much love to play them again
While I would love to see them on GOG, I am highly doubtful the legal pre-requisites will ever get sorted considering Brian Herbert's stance on the games.

I went ahead and bought retail copies of Dune 2000 and Emperor (you can still find them in some stores). Paid a somewhat ridiculous price + import fees, but hey, now I can play them anytime I want.

As a sidenote, they even work well in Linux with Wine.
Thankfully I still have my physical copies from when they first came out.

For it to cover only the first half of the book, they would have to be filming two movies back to back. I've never heard anything like this until now. At the very least they would have made it clear by naming the film something like "Dune Part 1". As far as I know they're filming the first book.

Dune is an upcoming 2020 epic science fiction adventure film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Eric Roth, Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve. It is an international co-production of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Hungary and it is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, and will cover roughly the first half of the book.

That clears it. They must be filming two movies back to back, it's just that I didn't hear anything about the production.

Nope. They will only begin filming part 2, if part 1 is a financially success. The screenplay for part 2 is ready, but that means nothing at the moment.

The film is made by Legendary Entertainment, just like the "Warcraft"-Movie.

So I expect part 2 to NEVER be made, since part 1 will never make enough money for Legendary to start filming part 2.

You can also look for other fan-made games to scratch your itch. These are heavily based on the original game so you may need the old Dune II game files, but the quality of life improvements they bring are quite welcome.

That is so ridiculous. I expect the film to end where the mini-series ended. Where house Harkonen captures control of Dune and Jessica and Paul escape in the desert. The problem is that up until that point, the story is mostly court intrigue and next to no science fiction spectacle. Honestly I'd be surprise if it ends up having wide appeal. People who don't know anything about Dune, would just end up being disappointing.
