It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

First thing first: I am not interested by Galaxy. None of its extra features correspond to things I would actually want to use. However, I like the downloader. I have Internet access by satellite and as a result there's a data quota per month, but with unlimited access between 0h and 5h. Having the ability to pause and resume downloads is therefore useful.

Lately, though, I've noticed that the downloader just doesn't seem to work anymore. The download stays paused and does not start. I do not get an option to resume or cancel.

Yeah, it happens occasionally, I've found. The only option is to download manually and hope the next update doesn't have the same issue. By and large, the downloader works fine, or did for me as of a few days ago.

You can get rid of the offending downloader entry by right-clicking on it and choosing 'remove'.
You also can use a downloader extension. I suggest you to try this one, is very nice and you can download at full speed:

DownThemAll

http://www.downthemall.net/

What is DownThemAll?

DownThemAll (or just dTa) is a powerful yet easy-to-use Mozilla Firefox extension that adds new advanced download capabilities to your browser.
DownThemAll lets you download all the links or images contained in a webpage and much more: you can refine your downloads by fully customizable criteria to get only what you really want.
DownThemAll is all you can desire from a download manager: it features an advanced accelerator that increases speed up to 400%, it allows you to pause and resume downloads at any time and, last but not least, it's fully integrated into your favorite browser!
Yeah, as ncameron said, it's an issue with certain downloads. Gog did claim to fix it, but it's obviously still an issue occasionally, not sure why exactly but some files work and others don't.

It should only be new games / new updates that are a problem, but obviously that doesn't help much in downloading those files where there is an issue.

Thanks, removing it and then attempting to download it again made it work; possibly because there had been another update for that game in the meantime.

I have used dta in the past, though it was more for bulk-downloads of many small files.

When using UMTS or similar I had sometimes similar behaviour, restarting downloader did help, sometimes removing and re-adding was needed as well.

Don't forget If you encounter e glitch which causes CRC-error or whatever it might stall the download. And as the downloader is not longer developed (like implementing new parts of newer protocols that could explain it as well).

For a bit more info: What you see as IP is in reality a conversion of other protocols.(ATM, Frame relay and x.25).
This could play into it as well. Same goes for latency(ping). If the downloader for example send the request for further info, but didn't receive a proper reply on the IP level, it will retry. Just this procedure could take up too 15 minutes and for sure you didn't wait this long, or? ;)

Some people mentioned that they were able to download it directly through the browser, haven't tried, haven't bothered so,sorry if I can't help you further with this.....

Looks like GOG broke *again* some new installers links. (sort of)....

I got this issue few months ago , the downloader didn't want to initiate the download, it stayed stuck at 0%.

Make a support ticket about this :

Like adalia , i suppose the problem affects only some recent installers.

As far i know the downloader should still work , the client is still in beta.

Yeah, it's annoying , especially if you don't want to use the client & for large installers (it's not a reasonable option to download with the browser). Or try with DownThemAll.... in the long run , GOG won't give a shit , if you don't like their client for one reason or another and they will drop the downloader. : because you can download the offline installers (backup) with Galaxy . Just using Galaxy for this purpose is just a big NO in my book.
