Hi guys, I´m sorry, but Gog installer is most of stupid I´ve ever seen!!! I´m 30 min. customer and spent 10 min by searching, how to use the downloader??? If it asked me to choose an application, I expected aplication I want to install. But, not here, I must choose already opened application, Gog installer. Normaly, if I install a downloader, I click on wanted apps. and it will download... Why to to choose an easy way, if I´ve got the hard one?
Yeah, the downloader can be a bit confusing. But at the moment gog is developing a client (GOG Galaxy) so perhaps it will get better once that is published.
Also welcome to gog :-)
That's weird. I'm lazy and that's the reason I love the downloader.
Did you sacrifice a chicken? I always sacrifice a chicken while using it. Chanting ohmmmmmgog ohmmmmmgog ohmmmmmgog over and over also seems to help.

You mean the downloader client, not "installer"?

Maybe it helps to think that you use it pretty much similarly you'd use a torrent client. That is, you have to use the web page (where the link to download the game is) and the client (GOG downloader, or a torrent client) in tandem. Clicking the link on the web page initiates the download within the client. You must have the client installed before this can work.

I'm not quite sure what you are complaining there, maybe we speak different English.

Do you mean that if you don't have the GOG Downloader client already installed on your PC, clicking on the game download link on the GOG web page should automatically initiate the installation of the Downloader client?

I've never seen other clients work like that. If I e.g. click on a torrent link on some web page (e.g. Humble Bundle), I don't think it offers to automatically download and install a torrent client for me, in case I don't have one installed on my PC. I have to download and install a torrent client myself, and only after that the connection works: clicking the GOG download link will be targeted to the installed GOG client. In case the client is not running already, it will be launched.

Or was your problem something else? If you meant that there is a confirmation question by the browser or Windows which application you want to handle to download request from the browser, I think that is just related to e.g. your browser or Windows settings, and it will go away as soon as you tell it to skip that confirmation dialog the next time.

I just tried it myself. I have GOG Downloader client already installed (duh!), but not running. Clicking the GOG download link with "GOG.com Downloader mode" enabled, launched the GOG downloader client, and added the game download to the queue. There were no extra dialogs or anything.

(Interestingly, the client didn't ask me to log in separately? Maybe I hadn't logged out previously so it had the log in credentials saved...)

Anyways, GOG Downloader client will soon be obsolete I guess. After that you either download using the Galaxy client, or normal http browser download (like currently, without using the GOG client).

I haven't had any troubles with it. I installed the downloader, logged in to it, go to my gog library, choose game, choose download, and allow it to use the downloader when a prompt asks me if I want to.
I haven't had any troubles with it myself, and I always use it to download games to prevent potential corrupt files problems. I don't remember finding instructions for it though, I just "went with the Force" and figured out how it worked by testing. Maybe that's what ForestMantis is upset about, he wanted some easy to find instructions and couldn't find them.

Can you explain your exact process that you have followed for us?
Despite our joking this is a friendly bunch. Bullet-point what you do to try and get the downloader to work and we can help you, I'm sure.

timppu had a good description too, that it is expected to run in parallel with your browser. Good information and a clear explanation that I had not thought about.

But also - remember the chicken.
