I'm new here happy to be here. I have a pressing dilemma- I just downloaded American Conquest the computer game after purchasing it from the site. And my Mcafee malware protection I have on my computer said it had malware in the download. So this is concerning to me because I don't want viruses and malware on my computer I don't think anyone would.. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm hoping you'll its no big deal and they always say that because I want to play! haha. Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks for your time
Its a false positive.
Why not get the sha checksum (basically a thumbprint) and put that in here?

(You could upload it, but that could take a hot moment if it isn't already in the database.)

If by "the site" you mean www.gog.com, then it is false positive, but you can always scan it also online where it is scanned against many different virus databases, just to see what is the consensus among them. I recall Virus Total is one that has been proposed here before:

https://www.virustotal.com/

Unfortunately many virus scanners are way too eager to make false positives. I just had this problem at work yesterday with Windows 10's own Defender: it keeps removing a bunch of jar files which I (we) need for some development work. We have asked the IT service to add exceptions for those files and they claim they have, but still when I run a virus scan for those jar files, it still wants to quarantine them. So now I have the files also on a password-protected 7-zip file from where I can always get them fast in case Windows Defender removes them again.

Damn virus scanners with their heuristic bullshit something something.

If, however, you bought and downloaded it from some other site than www.gog.com claiming to sell GOG games, then yes it surely has all kinds of nasty malware and your computer will blow up in 3... 2... 1...

7-Zip can calculate it out in the right click context menu. And if you don't have 7-Zip yet get it because it's a life enhancer. No PC should be without 7-zip unless it isn't running Windows.
McAfee is indeed amazing. Stay away! Also, I doubt that link has anything to do with MacAfee proper.

Neither the name nor the country of residence are what make me suspicious but several other factors.

Necroing the old post but since is bumped here we go.
7zip is indeed one of the best tools around, it's free, installs in 5 seconds and amazingly in this day and age, it wont ask for upgrades...
Can even open most .exe files and check if there is any suspicious file attached.
