StingingVelvet: The people who hated glory kills, gamey stuff like the ammo drops and limited ammo will hate this game a LOT more because it doubles down on all that stuff. You have to be into what Doom 2016 was going for to like this sequel, rather than liking it despite that stuff. One nice thing is that this should instantly let anyone know if the game is for them, based on how they liked 2016.
Yup. Doom 2016 was an OK game but I had to be in the mood to play it and couldn't make myself finish the second playthrough when I tried replaying it. Seeing as Eternal is basically more of the same I might get it in the future, but it is definitely not a $60 game for me.

sasuke12: I will buy doom 2016 eventually when it comes on gog.

But the doom eternal collectors edition is too cool to be bought digital only.
so much interesting stuff in the collectors edition.
What do you find so interesting about it? 200 dollar interesting?

I do like that it comes with a "lore book" and not just an art book.
Love Eternal. Just bought a ryzen to play it more smoothly. Probably funnest FPS I've played since I can't even remember that feels like an actual GAME instead of an interactive movie.

Twas hoping Doom64 was going to come here on launch, but it seems it's rife with Bethesda shit and I don't see it coming here any time soon. I imagine Nightdive was probably head-locked into that decision by Bethesda.

*Spoilers*

I am somewhat into "level 1" in the city on earth, and am scratching my head at some things:

Like how is VEGA still around/alive? And how did the doom marine get free?

*End spoilers*

Beyond that I LOVE some of the new enemies, but I also see the game is more linear this time around(though I expect/am hoping that is only for "level" 1 and the areas will open up more later on....but eh, it seems good enough even if it doesn't).

StingingVelvet: God knows how console gamers play this considering the speed and accuracy you need, at least on the third difficulty setting. It's even faster paced than Amid Evil, a game designed to be a PC throwback.
I usually use M/KB for shooters, except for ones with vehicles. I tried playing controller out of curiosity and got by just fine. I had it on default, with sens cranked up slightly. I was using an X-bone controller, and everything was smooth and comfortable. I had aim assist on and the tracking on it is great. Just some full disclosure; I haven't actually finished the game yet. I'm using M/KB now, but I might try to finish it one day with a controller.

There are some detours that will lead to secrets. You'll need a good eye to spot them.

I honestly don't remember the ending of 2016 enough to comment. I just remember the AI and the hints at demons invading Earth, so I guess I was good to go. It's funny how many lore and story logs there are to find, since the game isn't story focused at all. This one has a few more cutscenes, but not a ton. The general idea of "Doom Slayer is part of an ancient group of knights, seems to be the last one, is fighting off the demons on Earth" sums it up just fine for me.

VEGA is alive because in the first game, you made a backup of him before deleting him

jepsen1977: Sadly I doubt my laptop's GTX 1050 TI can run it but hopefully I will be able to afford a new PC later this year.
I don't think you'll have a problem

I enjoyed Doom 2016, so I'll probably enjoy this when I get around to it.

I wonder if they'll add Vulcan to make the game accessible to more people.

Add? Doom Eternal uses the id Tech 7 engine, which ONLY supports Vulkan.

the wearable doom slayer helmet
the lithograph poster
mick gordon soundtrack from this game and doom 2016

offcourse $200 is just too much for me. I'll wait for it to go on sale.
Around 5 hours into the game now and it's getting better. You get used to the platforming and it starts to feel second nature, like it did in Titanfall 2 (a great singleplayer FPS by the way). More importantly as you get more weapons and upgrades the ammo situation gets much better and you no longer have to chainsaw things constantly. In a pretty nice groove now.
