On Steam you can get a refund if you don't enjoy the game for whatever reason.

The best way to know if a game works or not is to read the specific forum for that game.

Exactly this.Both of the mentioned games run very smooth with no tweaking needed.I play AA everyday with the GameSpy fix and it runs amazing ;).The real problem is the fact that Windows updates are unpredictable when it comes to legacy support for older titles.Sometimes they improve performance and sometimes they completely ruin the game to the point of not launching at all or the audio and video codecs totally broken... The "October 2018" update should have gone out recently so that one probably broke things.

Allied Assault and Rainbow Six don't have any issues on my system, which is running windows 10.

allied assault works well for me!

Quite often the issue is not Windows 10 itself, but your GPU drivers, antivirus software, the moon etc.
