Okay, this has been driving me nuts the last couple of hours. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Goa trance while working. "Goa" may not mean much to you guys but most of you have surely heard that kind of music before since it was quite popularly used in video games in the late 90's and early 2000's, probably most notably in WipeOut.

Anyway, so today I stumbled upon this track by Koxbox.

It sounds super familiar to me and I'm 99% certain I've heard that melody in an old video game but I can't put my finger on it. Looking at Koxbox' IMDB entry it seems that it wasn't officially licensed so my guess is that I heard it either in a popular freeware game where it may have been used without a license or that somebody just plagiarised it.

Does it ring any bells?

My best guess is that it was used in a particular popular top-down deathmatch game with tanks from around 2000 that I just can't remember the title of. I also had suspicions that a super similar song may have been included in the Hunter Hunted soundtrack but I listened to the whole thing today and there's nothing quite like it on there (don't regret a single minute of it, though, as that soundtrack is utterly awesome).

A few games that I can think of with songs kind of like this was Seek and destroy, Wipeout, DDR, Einhander, and even stuff from the Saturn era had this style of music from what I know.

Love the base heavy beats!

Oh my, that's so 90s. It also sounds quite German. Well, turns out Koxbox is Danish, but close enough for a quick guess ;-)

Unfortunately I don't know any particular games with music like this, or at least I can't remember.

Sorry, I haven't played any games that match your description. But as for that track, it made me think of "Evolved", an industrial-style instrumental by the UK synthpop band Mesh. Very cool.
It sounds very similar to one of the main tracks from Wip3out. The only other place I could think it would have been used might have been one of the old Saturn games, maybe Darius Gaiden?
To me it sounds rather much like the main title of Descent. But perhaps its just instruments similar to what I've heard it played with.
Guess the search goes on but thanks for the replies thus far. At least I got some more music to listen to in this style. :D
