drmike: edit: *grumble* *grumble* Dang forum software....
832nd try:

edit: I give up. JudicatOr, T.Hodd isn't talking about AVG Free, he or she is talking about AVG TuneUP. 2 different products.

For what ever reason, the forum software is eating the links and modifying them.
LOL, thanks and for your perseverance also.

Judicat0r: I know i'm paranoid maybe but in order to keep my system lean and as snappy as possible I try to avoid software with installers and always choose portable ones.
This leads to GOG installer: how can I be sure that it doesn't leave behind stuff in the registry?
Would it work to just export the registry before any GOG install and then import it back after the uninstall?
Sorry if this has been already asked but searching the forum didn't help.

skeletonbow: When you uninstall a game various turds may be left behind both in the registry and/or the hard disk where the game was installed, however it varies from game to game. This does not include savegame files or other user data that one might want to save, but rather I refer to data that should have been uninstalled such as DLL files or other similar files.
OK, that's exactly the kind of things I'm trying to avoid from happening.
Restore points take care of those junk files or leave them untouched?

Sandboxie, Total Uninstall or Revo Uninstaller. In that sequence.

Yes, it does.
I don't know how you tied to post the link, but ...

1. Don't just paste the URI and hope it works - it most likely won't. Make use of the URL bbcode instead.
2. When using the url bbcode, add a space right at the beginning of the link text like so (url=hattop://exampleuri.going.nowhere/) an example link(/url).

Didn't know Sandboxie, thanks.
when I un-install something I always check system folders where the item was installed and do a regedit check to see if leftovers are still looming around. but when you have an ssd I never noticed slowdowns compared to a hard disk drive.

GOG on my end tends to remove everything even in the local hidden folders but some new games like witcher 3 and dos games tend to leave a little empty folder with nothing in it so don't worry.

Thank you for your response and for your time. The link was what was affected but the issue was related to how the quote tags were laid out. That's why things were confused to me. Actually copied and pasted my post into ultraedit after the first few tries to check the layout and still couldn't get it right. It was weird. (Ultraedit is bbcode aware.)

I was more wanting to make sure folks realized that the basic AVG anti virus program didn't check registry so I tried to get the post out.

Thank you again.

Interesting question. I love Gog since the beginning. I buy games from other online platforms only when they are not available on Gog. I favor DRM-free content and I do not like being compelled to use a client/launcher, I do not care about stats, achievements...

I use Windows 10. I have installed and uninstalled properly dozens of games from different websites. On Gog, I use individual installers. When I check the registry, the games from Gog have left much more errors. For example, my last game, Unreal Tournament 2004: a dozen of errors!

I do not want to be polemical. The problem might come from the editors. To compare objectively the programs, I should install the very same games from different websites, which I have not done.

And as it was said, recent Windows suffer less from winrot. The registry does not slow down the computer as much as other problems can.
CCleaner wont clean the registry as well as Geek Uninstaller (freeware).
others mentioned Revo Uninstaller , it is very good
btw those registries won't slow down your win, the parts added only needed when you start an app and it is very quick
some registries can slow your system down but not these imho
and yeah some apps could behave badly if cant find some saved info in reg , or just makes them again

Will have to try it. Had to send my system back a few days some time back which has left uninstall for several games that are not installed, so can’t remove them from list. Would be nice to clean it up.
