I refuse to play video games and only complain about them on forums.

...More pointedly, I just play whatever finds my fancy.
I used to play multiple games at once, but then I ended up almost never finishing any game.

Therefore, I switched mostly only to playing one game at once, until I beat it.

But sometimes that becomes too boring (especially when I run into grinding sections), and also that leaves me with many installed games that I don't want to uninstall until after I've finished them (but I also don't want to keep them installed forever, either, which therefore gives me incentive to go back and play them more), and these points lead to me going back to my old ways of playing multiple games at once.

At the moment, I still play one game at once more so than I switch between games frequently.
Hello everyone and Snizzle012!

In the past I stuck with whatever I started, until I finished that game (if it gripped me enough) or got bored of it and consequently quit as well as uninstalled the latter.

Meanwhile, my tastes in video games have changed, or let us say 'shifted', more towards certain genres. Hence, I am having a growing number of permanently installed games, especially from the simulation kind of games. Those usually can be played forever, besides their campaign or quick mission/game options. Thus I would be playing nothing else, if I stick to one game until its finished rule... However, I still come back from time to time to my cozy favorites, when I feel like.

And with the limited time for gaming in general I prefer shorter titles, nowadays.

If the game in question is relatively short, I might go through its entirety maybe only with one or two breaks.
And Point & Click Adventure games I tend to finish without switching beween games, in order to not forget or confuse details of the story and/or puzzles.

Every now and then, I am selecting one or another of my installed simulation games and give it a go, because I find them very relaxing!

Kind regards,
foxgog
Depends on the type of game. 5 minutes in a crap game like Flappy Bird or follow a story for 50 hours in Fallout.
I am always playing more than 1 at a time. Always at least three, but depending on how you count, more. I will have one RPG at a time, never more. And I will usually also have one strategy at the same time. So, for example, while playing Two Worlds right now, I'm also in a game of Lords of the Realm. I go back and forth, and when one is finished I will start another of whichever genre I just finished so that I almost always have a strategy and RPG going at the same time.

Then I have four sports sim that have no "ending," they can go forever. I do, however usually play only one "at a time" so to speak, even though all four are still "active." So, if you just count the one that's active, I'm always playing three. But since the other sports sims that I may be taking a break from are still there, and will be returned to, maybe you count those too? I dunno. This has been my practice for years, and then on occasion I'll add another in the mix to pass some short time, such as an RTS for awhile (Age of Empires still my favorite of those and I always come back to that game for a bit), or a point and click or puzzle type game, and sometimes a coloring game. lol, Don't know why, but those coloring games, which require little to no thought, are something I found I really enjoyed because it's just relaxing, yet keeps me involved.

TBH, I thought most gamers played more than 1 at a time. I always have.

Right now I'm playing Two Worlds Epic Edition (at about level 75, probably 60% or so of the map explored and cleared. I'm playing Motorsport Manager, one of the sports sims i always have going, and a Lords of the Realm game in which I am at about 8 or 9 counties, so quite a bit still to go in that game. And just two days ago, I played AoE (the first one, still the best IMO) for three scenarios just to change things up.

Don't most of you have more than one going at a time?
One at a time, not counting the odd game of Epic Pinball while I had that installed (not anymore) or Minesweeper or something of the sort. Sure, there are multiple games installed, but the rest are usually games I started playing and then took a long break from but mean to get back to, plus some rarer but existing cases of games that I meant to start playing right away but for some reason didn't.
Going back and forth between games would just mess up any rhythm and mindset and make it go even slower, and I finish so very few games as it is. There may be some rare cases when I pick up a short game and finish it quickly while still considering another game as "active", like it was with Hero of the Kingdom II last year, but this is highly unusual. Normally I stick to a game, and if I take a break from it and switch to another then it's a full switch and a long break, of months or years...
For example, took a 4.5-year break from NWN: HotU and then continued, then another half a year break, then continued again, then another three-month break, then finally finished it. And now keep poking at Diggles, hoping to finally finish it, started in 2021, dropped in 2022, continued in 2023... Also installed are Bound By Flame, played for two months in 2021, mean to continue, and Lords of Xulima, started in 2018, quickly took a break, continued in 2019 for a couple of months, took another break until 2021, then played for a couple more months, then another break that's still ongoing...
So, yeah, there's normally one "active" game at a time. And tend to consider a break as starting if I don't touch a game for at least two weeks, because otherwise there are plenty of times when I don't play anything for a week or so, one good reason why I barely advance.

Typically, I allow up to 4 contenders that fit the situation. The priority surfaces alone, easy cake
Work, family, mood, and many others can abruptly change the perfect hobby.
I mostly play longer RPGs so need to go one at a time. If I jump from game to game, Im going to forget what I was doing or miss something. Also prefer to really immerse myself into an experience and go through it before switching to another. If I get burned out, I would chalk that up to a flaw with the game or a certain section/aspect that could be improved upon (too much grinding, too much travel and empty space, gameloop is not innovative or engaging enough, etc.)
I usually play an arcade type and a story type at the same time.
One interesting point: Incremental games (also known as idle clickers), particularly long-form ones, are not meant to be the only game you are playing.

For an extreme case: Sandcastle Builder. You might only need to interact with the game for a short time every 30-60 minutes; what do you do while you're waiting? (Note that this particular game is *extremely* slow paced, more than is typical for the genre.)

Casual games of any sort probably aren't what this thread is asking about, some may even except them from the "count" even if they do play some.
Dont play too many MP games .When i do i just play genre thal have mood .For example , sometimes FPS , sometimes Strategy games, sometimes racing games etc.

The funny thing is, if you look at who's actually playing incremental game, it turns out that they're hardcore gamers rather than casuals.

I do understand why old burned out rts players who also followed the path of minimalism end up as incremental clickers
