Darvond: So, you notice how there's never been a single Sonic game on GOG? In spite of Sonic Forces, Sonic Boom, and other titles being exactly of the caliber of games that most publishers would foist on here?

Persona has transphobia, casual homophobia, paedophilia and worse.

That, and with the Yakuza titles being here, in spite of several scenes of literal babymen, what this means that I conclude I have no earthly idea what the cards are, and neither does anyone else.
I have played the Persona titles and am not mortified playing them, Have you even PLAYED these titles a decent bit or even completed them rather than following what some outraged person said who cherrypicked a few scenes out?
Persona has FIVE games.

Oh and to the OP I think us getting Persona may be possible if we could talk to them about why we want them here DRM free. I think Atlus IS the type of company who WOULD listen if you explain it well of your concern about DRM. I would point out we just want the freedom of access to our games that a physical disc grants console owners, able to play it on a fresh new computer install without having to redownload it and Steam. How if Steam ever goes down that game will be unplayable as well.
Lastly I would mention what has happened with the Wii, WiiU and 3DS and how this is very much a concern.

I think we have a real chance of getting "Dark Souls" by the way, same with "Sekiro". In fact I bet we MAY get Sekiro by itself sooner. These aren't licensed games like the Anime ones which may be more of a mess.
That being said I think it is more likely we see "Bloodborne" before all of them given Sony owns that IP.

Oh I will add ironically enough I do think there is a STRONG chance we may see "Digimon Survive" given how well GOG seems to get digital novels.

A word of advice on GOG, I would actually talk to Atlus about first getting Tsuganai and see if we could get some of the SMT and SMT related Gmode games on GOG first as Steam has already gotten the latter. Even if they are only Japanese it's a start and I believe you would not disappoint me in sales buying them. Heck I would be willing to re-buy them as I plan to buy them on the Switch as the SMT Gmode stuff so far is only on the Switch.

BreOl72: Renewing the music rights to a 14 years old game, that (afaik) was never a big seller, is technically outdated, and therefore probably won't sell many copies anymore on today's market?

Not very likely.

Of course - SEGA could go the extra mile and remove (and possibly replace) that music from the game...but all that would ultimately serve, is to create a public outcry, mainly by two groups: the old fans/players who'd claim SEGA "ruined their childhood" - and possible new (and old) customers who don't want to pay for a "mutilated" version.

And if a company's options are restricted to:
spending money for expired music rights, only to then possibly not making enough money to get that costs reimbursed (much less: making a nice win),
OR
to spend time and work (in other words: money) to alter a 14 y.o. game, to be able to re-release it again - only to find themselves in a shitstorm?

That company definitely won't invest the necessary time, work, and money.
To be fair, this wouldn't be unprecedented. Bigger games with more relevant soundtracks have been republished with licensed tracks removed. As far as Alpha Protocol goes I can only speak for myself, but I don't even remember any crucial music that couldn't likely be replaced, and if it came down to the choice I'd rather them change the music and get it back out on a platform like GOG where it can edure than it to disappear forever. I understand your point though.
I'd like to see more Bandai Namco games on GOG.
Ok, in regard to the newest development of today, I guess I have to eat crow now for my post from last month: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/do_you_think_gog_will_get_the_persona_games_in_2024_or_ever/post15

Well played, GOG (and SEGA (and Obsidian)), well played.

:o)

My God, the crazy SOBs actually did it. They just went and shadow dropped Alpha Protocol on us as a GOG exclusive! Bonkers and amazing all at once!
Okay, that's great for Alpha Protocol fans that GOG has re-released it with everything intact.

Now we must refocus our efforts back onto the original topic of this thread, and do something so that GOG uses their relationship with SEGA finally to release the Persona games on GOG in 2024.

Between this and the Yakuza games coming here, I think it's a possibility. They're pretty protective of that franchise, but I'd love to at least have them start with the older ones like P3P. That should be especially less risky now that P3R exists. As a Persona fan myself I definitely didn't mean to take away from wanting those games here with my jubiliation. Rather, the fact that this happened is another thing I take as a good sign about it being a possibility. Obviously I'm here reasserting my strong interest. I pre-ordered P4, I pre-ordered the white Vita that came out the same day as my pre-order of P4G to play that. The only reason I haven't already purchased P4G on PC is I will not buy a game with Denuvo, so I hope Sega eventually sees this as a way to if nothing else pick up some extra money on older titles.

I think they would give us the mainline SMT first to try out since that NEVER gets the sales they want like Persona. That being said if they release Persona 4 Golden here WITH Japanese text options as well as Persona 5 Royal given the same treatment I would bite. I am NOT necessarily interested in Persona 3 Reload unless it can be modded to FIX the scenario they tampered with.
I must admit I think it would be perfect if SMTV: Vengeance got released here day and date with Steam,

Nocturne would be awesome too.
While I would like it, there is actually zero chance.

Atlus put Denuvo on Etrian odyssey, their niche take on dungeon crawlers (It's also $40 when it retailed for $30 before...). They also put Denuvo on SMT3 when they put it on Steam. It's a shame because I like Atlus but I haven't bought any of their games even though Sega has nudged them away from their dislike of ports to multiple consoles/the PC.

Situation probably isn't going to change in the near term either for Japanese companies in general. There have been a number of high profile issues as of late that people forget:
1) The infamous nude mod incident during an SF6 tournament
2) SF6 online playtest being cracked and tournament players using it to learn the game before launch
2) MH:Rise's speedruns done entirely by cheaters after the speedrunning community decided cheating was ok (wtf?)
3) The new Zelda leaking before release and being fully playable on emulators

Is what it is.

edit: forgot the SF6 crack
